fu bar (pops)

FUBAR, for anyone who doesn't know, is a military slang term meaning "f**ked up beyond all recognition". It's pretty old and has been re-used/misused so many times that it has taken on new meanings.

A devastated Jeanie Squeri told CBS 2 HD she lived in a destroyed building her whole life.

Anybody else have to re-read that a few times? I was like, "why would she live in a destroyed building her whole life? I'm sure she could've moved. How did CBS 2 know to find this destroyed-building-living woman to get her insight on a train collapse?"

I am, in fact, that dense.

xBodo99 2008-03-16 03:27:01 AM
Also, I meant crane, not train.

"It was an absolute freak accident," Kaplan said. "All the piece of steel had to do was fall slightly left or right, and nothing would have happened."

City Building Department records showed that on March 4, a caller told officials that the upper portions of the crane appeared to lack the proper number of safety ties attaching it to the building.

*facepalm*

The caller should've known that the appropriate city agency to which to report the problem is the tv news media*. If channels 2, 4, 5, or 7 didn't bite, then obviously there is no problem. After all, the media knows best.

*Print media does not count. NYT does not read actual letters... Post and Daily News would rather hear about the aftermath than prevent a tragedy.

Carpet bombing NJ is like putting a bidet in an outhouse... sure it's an improvement, but in the end, it's still just a shiathole.

If you are referring to the percentage of the state that is closest to NYC, which is roughly 16%, then yeah, I'd have to agree.

But damn near the rest of the entire state is actually really awesome.

If you don't know this to be true, it's because you are basing your opinion about NJ purely on what you've seen from Newark Airport. Or more likely, you are basing your opinion on everything said by OTHER people who have said such similar things, having only seen the immediate area around Newark Airport.

In any event. You are wrong. And I pity you.

//Haven't seen any Jersey defense in a while.
//Figured it was time
//All other stereotypes about other states are completely true.
//They must be. It's on the internet.
//You see what I did there?

You have it backwards, my dear. It is the southern NJ hicks and the Central Jersey meatheads that give NJ a bad name.

Don't think I've ever flown into Newark... my personal visceral reaction to Jersey stems from that time that a female friend and I went canoeing up a river the color and consistency of coffee. And the part where every time one ventures on the roads, it feels like the locals are playing chicken with you...

Lot of smart people in that New Jersey.

Mr Tumnus: Why no [Ironic] tag?

Because it's not ironic. Traditionally Irony is the use of words contrary to their literal intention, a smart man's sarcasm, if you will.

Then in the more popular use of the word it means something contrary to what would be expected.

This fulfills neither of these, it is coincidence.

Correct. Irony would be if the Asbestos Bar burned down, or the DDT Bar had a bug infestation.
