Tonight at 7-7:30 pm we will be celebrating St Patrick's day and entertaining out of town visitors E-Brake and thepensivepoet at:

The Carriage House
219 E. 59th St
Between 2nd and 3rd Aves.

I have reserved one large and two small tables, conditionally. If the bar is extremely busy, all bets are off. I told them we were expecting about 10-15 people at least. If you can get there early, we can find you a seat. If you get there later, you might be stuck at the bar. I will try to get there as early as I can to stake a claim to our space.

Bar (new window)

Map (new window)

Take the E, V or 6 train to Lexington and 53rd, or the F, N, R, W, 4, 5, or
6 train to Lexington and 63rd.

We'll be drinking until about midnight, after that I need to head home as it's a busy day tomorrow. if others want to crawl your way to other pubs afterwards, have fun!!

Is that crane collapses at 51st and 2nd going to cause any issues? Not sure how much they are blocking traffic or how long all the police/firefighters will be in the area.

Damn. I'm going to Medieval Times tonight, leaving at 6 PM from NYC

If I went to the Scientology protest I woulda gone to this after! If they would let under-21s in, anyway.

Turned out to be a nice day, too, dammit.

But instead I had to work. Work sucks.

BalugaJoe FTW

And no, it's not ironic. It's a sad coincidence. Four confirmed dead and counting...

I hear you have to eat before you go, as the portions are small.

That's some shiatty neighborhood you picked out for this one.

By the way, the N, R, W, 4, 5, and 6 trains stop at Lexington and 59th street. On the F stops at 63rd St. and that's an above-ground free transfer.

I totally want to see you guys but there's only a 1% chance of me ever willingly going into that neighborhood on a normal day. With the crane collapse it's 0%.

If you can pick anything else in a different hood, that would be preferred. Most likely too late for that.

And yeah, don't go to FUBAR. It's kinda crowded in there right now.

What's wrong with that neighborhood?

I-baLL: What's wrong with that neighborhood?

It's painfully boring at best... but crowded with frat-boys at worst. It's also not the easiest to access, considering that only the E/6 trains stop nearby (and, even so, all the way over on Lexington - that's a good 10 minute walk after you get out).

I'll be the first to admit snobbery in this case - I mean, what's the difference between bars other than what's on tap? - but even if I liked any particular bar up there, I'd find it unappealing to deal with the commute on a weekend AND deal with the typical weekend crowds.

Along the same lines, at least the Patriot has great subway access at all times, and the bar itself is very entertaining - but the weekend crowds are so awful. SO AWFUL. I'll never go back on a Saturday unless it's already 3 a.m.

Sorry man, this was kind of put together on short notice. But there are more coming up, so maybe we'll see you at one of those. Stay tuned.

Well fark, I wish I'd realized earlier that this was going on, I would have made plans to come by.

phatface 2008-03-15 06:16:17 PM
7 - 7:30?

Half an hour hardly seems to be long enough to be considered a party.

Gwinny [TotalFark] 2008-03-15 07:52:58 PM
Yeah, this is the first I'm hearing of this get-together too. Have fun.

/also, I agree that the neighborhood is kinda out of the way

Princess Queef 2008-03-15 07:55:30 PM
i am shocked that this event will be poorly attended.
i figured most farkers would be social butterflies.

RiverKing 2008-03-15 08:02:11 PM
I take a whiskey drink,
I take a chocolate drink,
And when I have to pee,
I use the kitchen sink.
I sing the song that reminds me I'm a urinating guy

Actually, NYC Fark parties are usually well attended... if enough advance warning is given. Posting something in the party thread isn't enough (jrshull used to send out actual emails)

I sure did. I gave HandsomeJackManitoba the list I amassed some time ago, and it has yet to be used. This was planned on the Google Group, and I thought they were limiting it to the GG and TF. However, this thread popped up, so goes to show how in the loop I am these days. Work kept me from attending this one.

There was a get together this past Wednesday night that went quite well.

I agree that the area chosen sucks balls.

Haha, thanks for answering the question for me. I read all the "shiatty neighborhood" comments.. and kept thinking.. "How bad can it be on the East Side????" lols
