They should just burn the city and start over. That worked pretty well last time, right?

Just a little snark to cheer you up. Stay safe, Atlanta farkers.

A lot of those pictures are great, but Travis Caldwell needs a new hobby. And a tripod.

What this city needs right now is for Bush to come and stand somewhere and make a speech.

Where are you, Bush?

The city needs you!

Sorry, anyway one of my friends is down in Atlanta this week for spring break, I just talked to him last night before this hit.

skinink It's all Richard Jewell's fault.

I see what you did there. FTW

I remember being one of like three people that thought that he didn't do it. Nothing about what was being reported on the news made sense about him.

I hope everyone is ok in Atlanta, though. It's been amazing how severe storms have been hitting Atlanta recently. I remember the one that went through Dunwoody and up into Gwinnett a few years back. It started about 1/4 mile away from where I lived.

Atlanta was a city, landlocked,
Hundreds of miles from the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
Yet so desperate the city's desire for tourism
That they moved offshore, becoming an island and an even bigger Delta hub
Until the city overdeveloped and it started to sink.
Knowing their fate, the quality people ran away:
Ted Turner, Hank Aaron, Jeff Foxworthy, the guy who invented Coca Cola, the magician
And the other so-called gods of our legends, though gods they were,
And also Jane Fonda was there.
The others chose to remain behind on their porches with their rifles
And one day evolving to mermaids and sing and dance and ring in the new...
Hail Atlanta!

Oh snap.

Definitely looks tornado-y to me. Hope all you Atlanta Farkers are A-OK.

I would be perfectly ok if another tornado destroyed everything but the Masquerade.... went to a lot of concerts there, good times.

Heh...

The SEC VIP area is inside Gate C at the Dome. I was there for 10 hours on Thursday.

I'm kinda glad I turned down an invitation to go down Friday night...

Nightsweat 2008-03-15 01:06:41 PM
Wow, looks like a complete disaster.

And the wind damage is bad, too.

ErinPac 2008-03-15 01:07:14 PM
Some of the damage looks bad - but it must not have gone far; I haven't seen anything really in the parts of Atlanta I drive through. Except water.... but half these roads flood in a 10 minute drizzle. I think whoever built them either learned in a desert or in the pool-building business. I'm sure I've seen much more rain than we had... but the roads will hold the water forever

Maynard G. Muskievote 2008-03-15 01:08:12 PM
Didn't the governor of Georgia lead a big jesus-freak raindance or some shiat a while ago to pray for rain?

Be careful what you wish for, superstitious retards.

nobodyUwannaknow 2008-03-15 01:10:43 PM

What did they think would happen when they built the city under sea level?

/Oh wait...

whodigsben 2008-03-15 01:18:19 PM
Posted this in the last thread, but still applies:

We in the Dome had no idea what was going on. We had to figure it all out ourselves AFTER the fact. Then after the building stopped shaking, that's when they announced "severe weather warning." Farking geniuses. Had the game not gone into overtime, all we clueless people would've walked straight into it without any warning. I mean, we walked into the Dome and there wasn't a drop in the sky. That's why we were taken by surprise.

I'm thankful that it wasn't total chaos, but still kind of pissed that it wasn't because the Dome management wasn't good; they were lucky.

whodigsben 2008-03-15 01:19:26 PM
And you know what they say, "March-in like a Cloverfield, out like a lamb."

Are you talking about the one that tore up Fountainbleu Forest and Spalding Drive? If so - holla!

That's the one. I lived in Morgan Falls compartments at the time... trees were down and windows were out at my boss's house. He was out of town at the time. We went over there with chain saws and plywood and boarded it up for him.

Glad we're all okay.

My parents were driving through Atlanta last night when this came through.

whodigsben 2008-03-15 01:26:39 PM
As bas as it was, I saw up close the tornado damage in Dunwoody 9 years ago. Now THAT was bad.

ExRedStater 2008-03-15 01:32:30 PM
Hmmm... the link appears to be sorta semi-farked. I keep hitting the 'next pic' button but all get is the Westin hotel over and over again. Either that or this has all been blown way out of proportion.

whodigsben 2008-03-15 01:32:44 PM
Too bad the AJC Cabbagetown gallery doesn't seem to work. Cabbagetown got nailed last night. 200 year old oaks down on houses and the (cursed) Cotton Mill Lofts partially collapsed.
