Maybe she didn't put enough 'oomph' into her marketing. You know, a good thrust of advertising can go a long way to pound in the message. Even a little flyer distribution can plant the seed. A few net-based ads can massage the point further. Something in the more expensive newspaper ads may be a little bit harder to swallow, so it may be better ease into it, but every inch of effort counts!

Something tells me that somebody took the madam's high-paying clientèle and didn't do her the favor of letting her know about it.

I've been there (although no sex, road trip with pornstar friend and her posee). It's the novelty that sells, not the sex.

"You can't make any big money selling sex in St. Pauli any more," she was quoted as saying, referring to the area that includes the red-light district.

What do they charge? If it's a lot, then I'm not surprised they are open. I'm not an economics major, but high demand drives the prices up right?

I don't understand why people go to these prostitutes anyway. Most people usually pay for sex in one way or another, but it doesn't require one of these career prostitutes.

If you used to make 2,000 Euro a shift, and, then, years later, only make 200 Euro a shift. Um, am I being rude by suggesting it is quite possibly not just the market that has sagged?

With hookers, you stop paying when you pull out. With non-professionals, the hurt can drag on for decades.

$308 a shift? Who gave her $8?

More importantly, what did they get for $8?

I wonder how much STDs have to do with it, or how hard it is to vet both your girls and your johns for any incoming or outgoing diseases. Virtually everyone interested in that type of business is going to have some form of herpes or HPV; which will ward away a whole sector of potential business. And you can make all the promises you want about HIV, but there are no guarantees without a battery of intrusive test on a daily basis. Once you start asking the john to wait three days for the AIDS test before wearing the condom, the guy's likely to say "fark it" and go jerk off at home.

This is why prostitution shouldn't be illegal. There are so many discouraging factors from engaging in the business other than the possible monetary fine. It doesn't justify having a bunch of cops spend all night using 007 technology to catch a bunch of goobers hanging out in motels.

Do you know the way to Mordor 2008-03-15 04:50:22 PM
I have always been confused about this:

If hookers are paid with money, and money is a man-made invention, then why is prostitution considered "the oldest profession in the world?"

Surely if hookers required money to exist before they could do their business, then that would make banking the oldest profession in the world, and hooking be relegated to a close second?

Ever heard of bartering?

ha1rzr 2008-03-15 04:56:47 PM
If the shift is close to 8 hrs then it is only 38 an hour..which is pitiful for hooking. Basically crackwhore pay. Even the nastiest skanks should be able to make that so if you're not making this kinda money in your current profession maybe you should switch careers.

No, but in most cases the price that men pay is too high.

I've never understood this "oldest profession" shiat either.

"Root, fruit, and nut gatherer" surely predated trading sex for money, goods or services.

"Thief" was probably next on the list of formal professions.

Besides, the ability to sell sex implies that a woman actually has the power to refuse sex, and that's surely a more recent development than "tend the fire and feed the baby while the men are out stalking a mammoth." Surely cave-girl Ooga didn't dare say no to Gar and Urg after humbly serving them some grilled mammoth bits.

you could more easily just find a woman who hates you and buy her a house and save yourself a lot of time.

I was watching the Discovery channel once (or maybe animal planet) and they had some kind of monkey on. The males would climb trees and get bananas, the females would see a guy with some food and go over and lay down by him. The male just leaves the banana when he's done.

Point being: doesn't have to be money.
