I hate to be a cynic but since I am a cynic - this is not the same band since Ricky Wilson died. In fact the entire band is now void of guitar.

They'll bomb.

I dunno. The local radio station's been playing the "Funplex" single for the past few months and I think it's pretty catchy.

I like the Crossgates Mall incident reference.

I got a chance to see them play at the Montreux Jazz Festival last summer. They put on a hell of a show and sounded fantastic.

The best part was how much my 11 year old daughter enjoyed it. I was especially proud that she knew all the words to Rock Lobster.

Kate Pierson still looks hot at 59 years old?

Must be the redheadedness!

Don't how I missed this... must be the Openly Bisexualness. (new window)

He used odd tuning didn't he? Whatever, it did change the band sound after he died.

They're still a good show, though. At least they were in 1989. Been a while.

it's taken them so long because it's difficult to muster up all that suck.

A friend of mine has been a fan for a long time. People thought he was a freak in the dorms when he was in college in the early 80s and was listening to them. He doesn't have any kids of his own, but wanted to go to a waterpark and not look like a pervert, so we borrowed my cousins and a couple of their friends. My friend was in control of my iPod and put on Rock Lobster. They were very confused in the back seat for about 30 seconds, but they were watching us dance and be silly in the front seat and we had 4 kids, 2 12 year old girls and 2 14 year old guys(!) jamming to Rock Lobster. My friend was so proud, especially when he heard that they requested it at their mom's wedding. The other guests were very confused, but the kids had a good time!

I sent him this link and he said "I'm old school. . .I have to order the CD. I can't bring myself to just download it!"

It's amazing to think they're all about to hit 60. Wow.

There is a definite dividing line between the first album and everything else they did.

So is it strictly wilsons death?
Alternate tuning?

Hmmmm

/later stuff is ok, but yellow album is the stuff of legend

The red album's quite similar, but the third is completely different - all synthy - yet he was still alive then. And Cosmic Thing was a pretty damn good album...

One of my all-time favorite bands.

Saw them in Atlanta last summer. I know they are old and all, but for my $50 (x 4) they played all of about an hour. I was not a happy camper. Still sounded good as ever though, just don't sit too close ...

I met them through a drag queen acquaintance of mine.

(I'll take "If You Told Me When I Was 17 That I'd Write A Sentence Like That One Day, I'd Have Told You To Lay Off The Acid For $500, Alex")

Good people, the B-52s, and they did a lot of this new album about six miles down the road from me.

I saw them at the Taste of Newport two years back. They still rock.

I heard a new single. It was...awful. It made me very sad.

If it's too loud, you're too old.

Of course they're putting out a new record, spring is about to be here. The B-52s are a warm weather group.
Think about it, when did you really listen to their stuff? In summer, outside, hanging with friends.

Strobelight, Quiche Lorraine, Butterbean

The guitar thing was he never went really up into the high notes like most guitarists.

/Old enough to remember the Saturday Night Live performance and thinking "Weird, but I like it."
