Because SNL is claiming that they do not support anyone and are making fun of all of the candidates. Oprah has never made any secret that she supports Obama. She doesn't go on her show saying "I am not supporting any one candidate."

knbber2 [TotalFark] 2008-03-13 05:56:35 PM
Tina fey is not as successful and attractive.

clancifer [TotalFark] 2008-03-13 06:02:49 PM
Because to support Hillary shows an absolute lack of thought process?

RCraig [TotalFark] 2008-03-13 06:03:57 PM
Simple...Oprah is black, Obama is black...Hillary is a biatch but Tina Fay is not.

RCraig [TotalFark] 2008-03-13 06:04:50 PM
Sorry, Tina...I meant Fey..not Fay

Trepidity 2008-03-13 06:07:19 PM
cause tina feh doesnt give away prizes under the seats of her audiance.

baorao 2008-03-13 06:09:53 PM
Because Tina Fey says "go vote for Hillary because she's a woman!!". If Tina can give me a better reason than she did on SNL a few weeks ago, I'll be fine with it. But until then I'll continue lamenting that she isn't smarter than that.

burndtdan 2008-03-13 06:15:15 PM
tina fey can endorse hillary. snl can endorse hillary. for tina fey to use snl as an avenue to personally endorse hillary, then have snl turn around and claim to not have endorsed anyone, is a little ridiculous.

but it isn't because it's unfair to the voters that people are unhappy about snl seeming biased. it's because it kinda ruins snl. even jon stewart and stephen colbert don't endorse a candidate, because it's a comedy show, and that's a breech of the comedy.

we tuned into your comedy show to see you mock the candidates. we didn't tune into your comedy show to see you mock one of them and give a reacharound to the other.

Because I would definitely hit Tina Fey. Therefore, I would like to believe that she's not batshiat insane.

Oprah? Well.... I'd hit her bank account like the fist of an angry Republican, that close enough for ya?

Because Tina Fey was a guest on SNL, and Lorne Michaels doesn't want his show used as a soapbox for a candidate.

What Tina Fey did was the equivalent of me coming to your house for dinner and leaving an Obama 08 sign on your front lawn.

speedballtucker 2008-03-13 07:34:11 PM
Oprah fans who were Hillary supporters didn't think it was so great, and they let Oprah know about it.

And now Obama supporters aren't thrilled with SNL. People often only speak up when their interests are at stake. Shocking, I know.

This ought to be fun.

However, the outcry against Fey has already pretty much been covered by those in this thread for logical reasons. Won't keep the liters at bay though.

Fey's reason to support Hillary reminds me of this though:
Hillary is running to be the first woman president.
Obama is running to be the 44th president, who just happens to be black.

/someone else deserves the credit for that line.

i was just disappointed the sketches sucked. the 2000 debate sketches were god damn classics.

/governor bush, i listened very carefully to the vice-president's remarks, and i honestly do not believe he messed with texas.

As for those in the SNL writers' room, for the most part they're supporting Barack...and their laugh meter is telling them that there's truth in what they're writing. But is Obama laughing? He recently turned down a chance to appear on the show.

Lighten up, Frances.

Yeah, that's about it for me too. I have a crush on Tina Fey and when that idiocy spewed from her mouth I was pretty disappointed in her.

I'd be pretty disappointed in Chris Rock if he came on and told us to vote for Obama because he's a black guy.

I didn't know Oprah went out of her way to make Clinton and/or her campaign look ridiculously silly, as SNL had tried with Obama?

To be fair... what other reason IS there to support Hillary?

odinsposse 2008-03-13 08:39:26 PM
This thread is pretty much nailing it. I don't think people are saying "I'm outraged that Tina Fey would endorse a candidate!" They are saying "Tina Fey's endorsement of Clinton uses really stupid reasoning."

Also, Oprah is funnier.

Anarchofascist 2008-03-13 08:40:18 PM
Tina Fey and the (horrible) writers at SNL might be backing Hillary, but don't be fooled. SNL is stumping for Clinton right now because Lorne Michaels is a MCCAIN SUPPORTER.

http://www.newsmeat.com/celebrity_political_donations/Lorne_Michaels.php

And yes, there is a difference between disingenuously claiming to be neutral and stumping for a candidate and openly supporting one. Also, 30 Rock isn't funny and no one would watch it without an Office lead in.

For that matter, portraying Barack Obama as STUPID??? He was a U of C law professor.

Because Oprah has always said respectful things about Hillary Clinton and her supporters, while Tiny Fey insinuated that Obama supporters only like him because Oprah told them to?

Oprah recently put Hillary Clinton's Scabies: A Memoir on her book club. The unauthorized biography paints a less-than-flattering portrait of the former first lady.

Why is it ok for Clinton to openly say she's trying to cheat by getting the Michigan delegates seated.
Why was it ok for Clinton to put her name on the Michigan ballot despite a rule disallowing exactly that.
Why was it ok for Clinton to go to Florida for a fund raising event despite not being allowed to campaign there before the primary.
Why is ok for Clinton to not denounce her racist former advisor and act as if what she said is ok.
Why is it ok for Clinton to insult 60 or 70% of the country calling their state 'insignificant'.

Should I continue?

Wait, are you saying that the author is a Francis because she is creating the appearance of drama where there is none or calling Obama a Francis because he doesn't want Clinton's sloppy seconds?

Lawnchair 2008-03-13 08:44:15 PM
Honestly, from the article, it sounds like Lorne Michaels is the one with sandy nethers. Who, exactly, is calling Tina Fey's commentary an "obamination"? She's perfectly within her rights to say what she wants to. Any SNL is within their rights to show it (the Fairness Doctrine being dead and all). Lorne just seems angry because a number of people are disagreeing with Tina Fey's vacuous endorsement, because it's a dumb position, not that she or SNL shouldn't be free to make it. The Comedy Central shows are more popular among the youth for being a whole lot more insightful.

puffy999: To be fair... what other reason IS there to support Hillary?

Well...there's her policy stances, but they are very similar to Obama's, so that's not much of a reason. You could say that you like Hillary's approach to the GOP - she likes to fight them tooth and nail whereas Obama is seeking to reconcile differences, and you firmly believe that the GOP cannot be dealt with in any way but harshly.

That's all I can think of right now.

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2008-03-13 08:55:03 PM
Lando Lincoln: and you firmly believe that the GOP cannot be dealt with in any way but harshly.

That's actually rather funny, that so many people actually ignore how she has dealt with the GOP in the past (where she, you know, agreed with them).

moriarty23 2008-03-13 08:55:19 PM

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2008-03-13 08:56:01 PM
So, essentially, I can accept the policy decision (though I don't know why people would support her over Obama on policy, unless you like more money going into the hands of people who are already getting it), but the rest is made up gobbledygook.
