"Fans can listen to the music three times for free before the download expires.

The listener is then given the option to upgrade and purchase the album."

So is this a "trial listen" or actual download? Download 3, then you have to buy? What if I change my IP, will they know I've used up my 3?

If they can work out the kinks, though, this sounds like a great idea.

You never let me down! Now I just wish Maiden would add some more North American dates for this tour.

I think it is great that Iron Maiden has finally decided to release a greatest hits collection.

That album has the best album cover, though I thought the name was just "Somewhere in Time" with Cyber-Eddie brandishing a pistol...\

I've been known to be wrong.

Low or high bit-rate? I'd still rather have a CD, sound is still better.

Ah, they're just trying to break Kiss's record.

Don't care for the three listens rule, but oh well. Maiden is one of the few bands whose CDs I will actually buy.

Hetfield 2008-03-13 03:27:41 PM
Yeah, "Somewhere Back in Time"...I guess they mean the 80's, because that's the decade they're stuck in.

What's to stop you from recording it, and keeping it? It doesn't take bunch of expensive stuff to do that.

Realistically, all those DRM schemes fail because of the air interface: You can play the songs through speakers and record them on a tape, or a different computer.

Sound quality will suffer a little, sure, but we're talking about IRON MAIDEN* here.

*Actually, from a musical standpoint IM was pretty good. It's just that their lyrics are utter tripe.

Well, seeing as I already have all these songs on album,
I see no point in buying it.

What the fark is your constant problem with Iron Maiden? The fact that they were making music 13 years before the first full length Viking Metal album was released? Or is it because they were pioneering trills and scales when Buckethead was 6 years old? Maybe it could be that it's because they were the first mainstream band to use the gallop picking (coincidently also used in all forms of metal, including Viking)even before "Barracuda" was released in 1977?

My money is that it's because you have the intellectual development
of a 4 year old and have no appreciation for music history.

It's ok to hate Iron Maiden, but it is not ok to like a certain form of metal and then bash one of the forefathers.

/oncoming traffic, let me show it to you.

gonna see them tomorrow night. Should be great (except for the part of going to New Jersey).

I already own the first seven Maiden albums. Is this just a Greatest Hits a la Best of the Beast, or is this in the same vein of Live After Death? If it's a live concert recording, I'll gladly shell out the bucks for it.

Just set up Audacity to use your sound card as a device to record from. Hit "record" on Audacity, then start playing the file. Hit "stop" on Audacity when the file is finished playing. You may need to trim a little bit from the ends of the resulting file before you convert it to whatever format you'd like. The quality is much better than recording via speakers and air.

This is probably for the live album "Somewhere Back In Time". I think they are using one of the shows they did in Toyko for it.

About time I get an updated live version of "Heaven Can Wait", although Blaze didn't do that bad of a job with it.

Great. More irrelevant music being released online by now-irrelevant bands that have more money than they know what to do with. Why is it only when big bands do this people freak out? Small bands/artists have done this since the dawn of time. It's not like these big bands are working with labels; they're just capitalizing heavily on a mundane thing.

WTF Maiden? I just went to your website, and this world tour only includes ONE U.S. date east of Houston, and that's NJ? THAT SUCKS

The Allan Ball 2008-03-14 11:01:52 AM
This is Maiden's 5th compilation. It's getting a tad ridiculous. Best of the Beast, Ed Hunter, Edward the Great, The Essential IM and now Somewhere Back in Time. At least the tracklisting is good. Except for Can I Play With Madness - total crap.

I understand *why* they're doing it (to introduce new fans to their best music), but it still bugs me. Well, I don't have to buy it since I've got all that stuff on vinyl and CD anyway. I love the band, but I'm not a completist.

/Revelations FTW

I just sold my complete Iron Maiden collection on ebay. Most of which I either got for free or at discount prices.

I got roughly $2500 for it.

I sold two one-song singles for $75 each.

And people laughed at me for collecting it.

Personally, I first heard Iron Maiden when a history teacher played "Alexander the Great" for his high school classes.

I return the favor by playing "Paschendale" for mine.

/I know now that Alexander the great has a couple inaccuracies, but back then I didn't care.
