Represntative Couch says enforcing this bill if it became law would be a challenge.

So it's a challenge to enforce, but he wants to spend the time and effort to get it passed?

What's to prevent a user from creating an account using someone elses information?

Representative Couch says he filed the bill in hopes of cutting down on online bullying. He says that has especially been a problem in his Eastern Kentucky district.

Well, tell your snowflakes to toughen up, douchebag.

To hell with the First Amendment, this law wouldn't get past the Dormant Commerse Clause. Only Congress can regulate interstate commerse.

JohnCarter 2008-03-10 12:23:53 PM
Wow - that's some fine lawmaking in Kentucky

On-line harrassment is big issue in Eastern KY? Shouldn't he be dealing with the REAL problems in KY, like illegal marijauna and meth. Obvioulsy all the other problems have been solved.

His last quote about "hard to enforce" is a classic understatement. There would be no way to enforce this at all

Hmm...let's see, banks are starting to close, markets continue to tank, country's going broke due to the above plus a war that's costing $4k/second, and this asshat wants to save us all from the menace of anonymous Internet posting.

Yep, sounds about right!

If these guys are looking for an excercise in futility I recommend they try herding cats. It'll get them outside, away from frightening things they don't understand and hopefully distract them from ideas like messing with my damn Bill of Rights. PUT THE INTERWEBS DOWN MR SENATOR AND SLOWLY BACK AWAY.

mccheek 2008-03-10 12:26:40 PM
In other news, legislation was signed today in Kentucky that mandates anyone giving you the finger on the interstate must first pull over and give you a business card.

The bill would require anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site.

Has he hot daughters with a blog or myspace account?

Zero change online, but lots of abandoned office space where thriving web-hosting data centers used to be.

Genius!

I'm going to create a "Tim Couch" alias on every website in the intartubes, list my home state as Kentucky, and go trolling.

Which isn't much different from what I do now when I'm drunk, but it will be much, much funnier.

Winterstar

To hell with the First Amendment, this law wouldn't get past the Dormant Commerse Clause. Only Congress can regulate interstate commerse.

Except when the server and maintenance crew are in Kentucky. But, otherwise...yeah. If the piratebay can't be shut down, they'd have a hell of a time enforcing this.
