There are still plenty of original, truely original bands out there that have their own sound and create unique songs. Unfortunately, those bands don't get radio play. If you took a guy that knew nothing about today's music, and had him listen to one song each by Nickleback, Hinder, Seether, and Shinedown, he wouldn't be able to tell you that each song was performed by a different artist. So pretty much what I'm saying is that your question is void, because all of the music on radio is just as formulaic for a reason: All of the original bands aren't "radio friendly". I place just as much blame on Clear Channel as I do on Nickleback.
