The funny part is the standing ovation - obviously the dog was far more entertaining that the game. lol

Steak. Now.

Ah, reliving the glory days. This reminds me of a story I heard on NPR that was about chimp actors going into retirement. Cheetah, the chimp from the old Tarzan series, has a house in Palm Springs and sits in his living room watching old tapes of the show and recognizes himself, watching his scenes over and over.

Where is the video?

Awwwww, that's a better ending for some greyhounds than others.

Poor things.

The crowd must have been delirious that something was finally happening on the field.

It would attack the mascot.

Cheetah is the oldest chimp in the world.

/true. I couldn't believe he was still alive.

I really wish they had a video for this, what a cool story.

My first thought was why would anyone want to drive a retired bus around a stadium 5 times.

/strange thought
//ok very strange

Christian Bale 2008-03-09 09:29:53 PM
The dog did FOUR laps, not five, so this isn't newsworthy. Retired greyhounds do four laps all the time, but five? That would be something. Sadly, smitty has it wrong.

Useless without video.

A friend of mine has rescued greyhound and they totally do this. You won't believe they are even the same species when you see them tearing ass around the back yard in circles.

Maybe there was a bomb on the bus. I once saw this movie where a bus' speed couldn't drop below 50, and if it did a bomb would explode. I think it was called "The bus that couldn't slow down."

Cheetah is still alive, and does paintings for sale.

Profits go to his care and the chimp sanctuary.

For modern art, it's remarkably affordable.

If I had a bit more disposable income, I would have one. He's like 50 years old or something and probably should be on this year's dead-pool.

Cheeta is still alive at the age of 75 as of 2008. His 75th birthday was celebrated on 9 April 2007, at his "Casa de Cheeta" in Palm Springs at an event hosted by Dan Westfall and Diane Weissmuller, (Johnny Weissmuller, Jr.'s widow). The press and many Palm Spring celebrities attended.

75, retired and making a bundle in the art trade

We should all do so well

Try chasing one down and returning him to the yard from which he escaped. Never have I been so humiliated with my pants on as the day I saw a golden brindle ass disappear down the street while I was running hard out after it.

/I swear the damn dog was laughing at me.

Maybe Smitty was doing a British - American unit conversion. Five times around an American football field would just about equal four times around a small football pitch.

I spent a lot of the Summer with my friend's newly adopted greyhound. Sweet as the day is long, and a total cuddle monkey, but once she got tearing around the back yard all you saw was a bridle blur. Oh, yeah, and dumber than a bag of hammers. Whenever the other dog(a chow mix) would go belly up for a tummy rub, See(yeah, her name is See. It's short of See How She Runs or some other stupid racing name) would try to get on her back, but she doesn't really have one so she'd keep falling over.

/did I mention sweet?

Best pups ever.

Brindle one had 10 races, 0 wins.
Red one had 27 races that I know of with 3 wins.

Where did yours run, apachevoyeur?

Corpus Christi, TX though I think that track is shutting down. Ours is three years old and about 60 lbs.

Beautiful dogs you have there!

I was nervous with kids and a cat but she fit right in. I told the cat not to make any sudden moves... so far so good. :)

Reminds me of the time someone let an opossum loose on the field at an Oregon State football game while there was a time out. The possum started to wander from one endzone to the other. By the time it got to the 50 yard line the whole crowd was cheering it on. The announcer even got in on it, "he's at the 40... the 30..." I don't remember if it made it to the other endzone before security caught it and took it away, but I do remember the whole thing being more fun than the game.

My daughter, my ex, and I were adopted by Ebony (racing name was Ebony Tornado). Best dog ever. Dumb as a box of rocks with no lid, terrified of cats, answered to Peckerhead, slept 18 hours a day, but just the sweetest guy on the planet. I left him with the ex when I moved and he died at the age of 14 not long after. God, I miss that dog.

Cool. Yours ain't too bad lookin', either. She's about the size my of my brindle boy, heh... he's tiny. The red is around 75. Neither of mine are especially interested in cats, either. Actually, the brindle fears them.

The brindle raced in Orange Park and Daytona Beach, FL; the red at Southland in Arkansas.
