It would be un-American to pay those budget balancing, national health care, snow commies.

Bush would rather ruin the Republic.

So long as we can buy from the Saudis. Because they aren't involved in terrorism at all, ever.

Good thing there's always a market for oil.

Shaggy_C 2008-03-09 08:35:44 PM
Oil costs the same if it comes from Canada or from Iraq. Or if we pump it ourselves. Commodity pricing is a biatch.

Good thing we have that NAFTA.

Oh, wait.

I'd like to find me a nice country that would let me grow/harvest/process cannabis for use as a biofuel resource. Then I'd start smuggling the product into the US and selling it on the black market, doding the tax man all the way.

They could write a song about me.

They shouldn't worry that it would prevent BushCo from buying it. More importantly, does it prevent BushCo from invading and taking it?

By the way, we want more money."

Lol. Maybe thats the ultimate goal. Once the shipments of oil stop he'll spin it as "Those evil Canadians are hoarding oil, that's why its $4/gal - they're worse than OPEC!".

Realistically I doubt that they'll stop receiving oil from Canada. Its the same cost per barrel no matter what country you get it from - but isn't it cheaper to transport it across a few miles vs across the Pacific? Especially when you have pipes that deliver it directly? I just don't see them turning the taps off.

Buying oil from Canada is a threat to the US's energy independence and security.

Buying oil from Saudi Arabia strengthens the US's energy independence and security.

Any questions?

Nah, I hold Canada blameless in this. It's pretty normal when new legislation is passed to send a letter saying, "Hey, this probably wasn't what you were shooting for, but just in case..." It's probably a non story, but it's worth Canada's time to either get a favorable interpretation or to get corrective legislation if necessary. Our northern friends are doing the right thing here. No one is "wrong," it just makes sense to get things spelled out.

It's so funny how much the times in our country have changed that I find myself agreeing with Weaver more and more. I always considered myself on a different side of the field.

That's more of a B.C thing than an Alberta thing.

Wouldn't expect you to know this... or anything, because that would be too much to ask of an American, but we're you biggest foreign supplier of oil. Yes, we sell you more than anyone else, including the whole middle east combined.

That's all. You can to back to watching Jerry Springer. Thanks for your time.

Fark using mary jane as a biofuel. Plastics!

Seriously. We could get a huge percentage of our plastics as well as a whole slew of novel new lubricant oils from the Hemp family.

There's more oil there than all that's ever been discovered in Saudia Arabia. Certainly more than has ever been extracted from Ghawar.

Kind of a non-issue. Basically, their oil gets refined and isn't differentiated from other sources, so it isn't considered an "alternative" fuel. If we really wanted to bust Canada's balls, I guess this could be enforced, but we need that oil too much to do that.

Plus, Canada won't let us breath the air that comes across the border. Those arctic air masses are going to have to stop at the border. We'll be dependent on air coming up from Mexico to breath.

This NAFTA DAFTA CRAFTA stuff has our fearless leader all confused.

Good! Exploiting the oil sands would be an environmental disaster.
