The only thing that's sad about this is that they have to put up signs to remind people to act with some manners in a public place.

I have two little kids and I've seen teenagers dropping the F-bomb in the parks I go to get suddenly quiet when they see the kids. Not that I'd have any hesitation telling them that they're not shouting it at their friends, but if I'm 10 feet away, they're yelling it at me too and I have an issue with that, but they already seem to get it. I know the words, but I don't need to hear an hour of shouted profanity when I've got my kids at the swings.

I find it amusing what people will freak out over once they become parents.

fark that bullshiat. If he wants to protect his child from swear words why doesn't he just lock the kid in his/her room until it's 18 , feeding it through a slot in the door and collecting it's waste in a trash barrel. Most parents these days are morons. Instead of whining and ruining the park for normal people with brains, he could just as easily build a swingset/playhouse in his backyard. He must be a cheap bastard.

On one hand, people shouldn't have to be prompted to not curse like schoolchildren when out in public.

On the other hand, if the offenders were at the basketball court, don't hang out around the basketball court.

Ahh, parents. They have bred and now we all will suffer. Their choices now must become our choices. They think that simply reproducing gives them a say as to what comes out of my mouth.

fark you.

It's a rough world folks. If your children are scarred by a few swears, you did a poor job parenting. Just explain to them that those words are rude and move along.

god damn breeders
/wants to breed
//doesn't think that his decision to breed should affect the speech of others.

It was a gorgeous Sunday morning, unusually warm for this time of year, so Steve Whitmer decided it was the perfect opportunity to take his two small children to a local park.

But the family fun was ruined when a few people playing basketball on the nearby court at James Holland Park wouldn't keep their language clean.

Well maybe the people playing basketball thought it as the perfect day to go to the park and offend parents.
Why does this man have to ruin THEIR day?

Seriously though, this guys head would have exploded if he went to the parks where I grew up. Some of the kids had dirtier mouthes than the adults.
WTF happened to "Adults sometimes swear, but it's not appropriate for you to do"? Instead of trying to censor everyone.

The other day I was in the car with my friend, his g/f and her kid. I said a "bad word" and the kid told me to shut up. Granted I shouldn't have slipped up, but you don't tell adults to shut up. Eh, at least they told her that was wrong and that adults will talk how they please.
Point being I see this behavior in kids too much. It's all about protecting the children, when really it should be about teaching the kids appropriate behavior, not protecting them from seeing inappropriate behavior. Too many parents would rather dictate the behavior of others than just concentrating on their children. Don't worry about everyone else, worry about your own kids. Maybe they will grow up to be decent human beings if your efforts are directing to teaching THEM things rather than paying attention to everyone else.

I'm sick of hearing you people and your farking kids. Fark your kids. Besides, if they're in second grade then they've heard and said it all on the playground already.

Now if people are being overly disruptive, that is a problem. But you don't have to pull our the "Think of the children!" card for that.

Exactly. All parties need to use common sense.

If he thinks parks in America are bad for swearing, he should try taking his little darlings to the pubs here in Scotland that have 'kids licenses', where under 18's are allowed in (albeit not to drink alcohol) with their parents.

It'll be an education for them!

Babbs 2008-03-09 10:02:01 PM
Oh, now I get it. I have to use the same, tired memes to get an article greenlighted. I wondered what I was doing wrong.

Anyway, it's not all parents that are like that. My kids were raised in REALITY. Husband's been in the trucking industry for 18 years and I can cuss with the best of 'em. Granted, it wasn't a constant in our household, but a few four letter words slipped out now and then and my kids are no worse for the wear. My 19 yr old daughter doesn't even like to cuss, which is quite ironic.

FistFark 2008-03-09 10:02:04 PM
Its not just the words but the thoughts behind them that are offensive to me.

A basketball court? I'm a parent and I think it's unreasonable to expect people on a basketball court not to swear. Basketball courts and golf courses, geez, might as well take the kids to the dog track where they can also learn some stats.

Find another park.

I hate parents like this. Must get everyone to watch what they're saying because this person's kids might be in the area. It's called free speech asshat.

The reason why I'm so against this guy is that I deal with asshats and coonts like this all the farking time. At first it's swear words, and once that victory is won, they move on. Inside stores, people have complained against me for my use of foul or offensive language. My offensive language includes supporting abortion, talking about paganism and why I'm a pagan (A woman told me to shut up because she's a good christian and doesn't want her children to hear such blastphamy) and sex.

One time it was after midnight on a school night, explaining to my friend what one can do to a girl with liquid lollipop when a woman came around the corner, yelling at me because her children where with her, and could hear every word I was saying, and asked why would someone want to lick liquid lollipop off a man's dick. I told her not to be such a biatch and mind her own business, and get used to shiat like this happening because having children doesn't make her special, just a bigger biatch for expecting me to bend over to make her sorry ass happy (she found a cop to report me too, I was asked to leave).

I hope people find out, exercise their freedom of speech, and drop an F-bomb everytime they're in that park.

In the proper scenario, the parents would have went up and politely told the people playing basketball they were being a little too loud with the inappropriate language, and the people playing basketball would have said "Sorry about that" and everyone would have moved on. In fact I have seen this scenario several times with no issues between either party.

Instead, considering the parents behavior as far as actually asking that signs be put up and whining that something be done, the parent probably approached the group in a condescending manner which pissed them off and caused them to say "fark you". Either way, the parents are being douchebags in the end.

I would explain to my daughter that some people have no self-respect and therefore do not respect others. That a person can look normal and be a complete waste of humanity. That people that would yell curse words in a park where they are kids playing are the kind of people that would park in a handicap parking space, would cheat on their taxes, lie to anyone and would most likely end up being a complete failure in life.

Never let a chance to educate your child slip past.

Palm Coast mother Jessica Happel, 20, said on a recent afternoon outing to James Holland Park...

Wow, you were able to deduce all of that from a mere word? Amazing talent you have there.

jbrooks544 2008-03-09 10:09:49 PM
My wife had a similar issue in the next town over. They have a nice kiddie playground right next to the basketball courts. In the kiddie playground there are everything from infants to 8 year olds. On the courts , there were teens one time, white kids playing at being gangstas, whos language was outrageously offensive. It was a very bad place for kids to be.

As a parent, I understand that my kids are going to hear some swearing. The excessive foul language from the poseur b-ball players was too much to take though. I can sympathize somewhat with wanting to somehow prevent this.

The fact is though, you can't control peoples' behavior with signs. Either politely ask them to keep the swearing down or go a different time or go to a different park.

I could just see Tommy Jefferson and Ben Franklin with their grandkids in a park in 1792 and some asshat playing pitch the pole yelling whatever passed for curse words back then. I don't think they would be thinking how proud they are that the young man was exercising his free speech right.
