Not the kid's fault at all! The problem is with the government! New laws must promptly be enacted! Toy and lighter manufacturers must properly mark weapon imitations so that there is no confusion possible.

My son dropped by one day with a BB pistol that looked very much like a real S&W pistol. He said he found it and had been riding around messing with his friends. I pointed out that it looks real enough that it could get him jailed for being stupid, or worse knowing how a LEO might react. He was about 19 then. Just before driving off he handed me the pistol, said he'd thought about it and I was right.

When will you stupid Americans understand!!??

In the UK we do not have "Arby's" or your so-called "Wendy's".

I've had a really bad day, so I'm off to wave a piece of wood out of an upstairs window until the Armoured Response Unit shoots me in the face. 50 times.

We have McDonalds or BK. Everything else is roughly the equivalent of Uncle Moes Family Feedbag.

Oh, and KFC - but those places are really dirty. They would be less disgusting if the server dropped your food on the floor and stood on it while taking your money.

Obvious tag having the day off?

Older brother had a toy gun (water pistol - my younger brothers) sitting on the back shelf of his car about 10 years ago..

ARU were there within 5 minutes, MP5s to the head, down on the ground, no questions asked.

/ Height of IRA campaign
// Im Glasgow though (IRA never bombed Scotland, but both sides were heavily active - the Catholics funding and arming the IRA and the Protestants massively involved in gun running to Ulster and back).
/// Still, got the message across - carrying a stupid ass gun shaped lighter in the UK is likely to get you shot.

Actually must be near on 20 years ago.. either way, carrying something like that is asking to be "dispatched" asap.

UK armed police aren't exactly renowned for their diplomacy - even before the brazilian in the subway incident.

Coincidentally, watched a repeat of a documentary on the SAS storming of the Iraninan Embassy in 1980. The ambiguous order from teh top was that "the problem should not leave the building" - i.e, kill them all, no questions asked.

One of the many Scots in that SAS squad put it pretty bluntly, something like " I saw a glimpse of what looked like a gun and fired - we probably put 4 or 5 clips into him. If you've got to the stage where you're facing us in a violent situation, you're dying.. not us."

All the more reason not to fark about with guns (or things that look like guns).

It's a real "gun".
However, I doubt terrorists are gonna have a lot of use for this one. Chambers 6 rounds of 9.2cal ammo which has a muzzle energy of under 1 joule. A BB gun will completely blow it away. Now, scale it up to the size of cigarette lighter...

Not forgetting Wimpy, the fast food restaurant whose burgers are best described by the chain's name.

Same thing happened at my place of work so Im getting a real kick out of this.

I work security. A dude was sitting on a bench infront of our store, kinda far from the 2 outside cameras (ie we coudlent get good resolution on the monitors) and he had a "gun" (lighter) in his waist band. like 3 people came running in from the parking lot "OH GOD GUN!" (im from south orange county so... yeah people over react) but he did start kind of playing with the lighter (waving it around)

We rolled the sheriffs on the guy they came code 3 (really fast) and aproched him weapons drawn ordered the guy on the ground.

Once we found out it was a lighter we (in security) had a good laugh. Im sure the guy didnt though.

Well, at least in the US, the majority of states are "shall-issue". Meaning that there is a good chance that someone somewhere will be armed with a concealed firearm. (In my case it is most often a Bond Arms 45 Colt derringer.) So if someone pulls idiotic crap like that there is a possibility that they will have a gun barrel pointed at them.

It may not happen the first time they do it, or the second, or even the third. Eventually though, they will run across someone who IS armed and they will wish they had smartened up awhile ago. They probably won't get shot, but they will have the crap scared out of them and the police laughing at them. This is the same reason why you need to be careful with airsoft guns as some do look rather realistic.

Arby's is awesome and Wendy's is way better then McDonalds or BK. I feel kinda bad for you. Probably better for your waistline though.
