Eh, didn't he buy a 20,000 acre ranch in Paraguay or Argentina or something? A country with no extradition to the US, I think.

I'd clap along if he were leaving D.C. and going to prison (with Dickhead Cheney).

I just can't help by think of Bush as a modern day Nero, starting with the WMD skit he pulled a few years back. The hegemony is so nervy it's astounding.

From the sidebar:

President Bush in his own words
A look at the quotable foreign policy speeches that define George W. Bush's presidency.

I wonder if they'll include this cascade of fail:

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

"I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'"
- G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI

"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."
- Bush, in remarks in a Press Availablity with the Press Travel Pool,
The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on
official White House site

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him."
- G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts,
3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

Already I am missing him, given the choices we are allowed for his replacement. I am just wondering which of the following are going to be said: "Remember back when Bush was President?..."

1) "We only had three wars at once."
2) "Taxes were only 50%."
3) "Most people still spoke English."
4) "At least we didn't live under Sharia law."
5) "When we were sick, we could go to a doctor."
6) "We could buy toilet paper instead of using $2 million bills."
7) "We had a missile defenses. Oh, God, we had a missile defense. Why did they get rid of our missile defenses? Why, oh God, why?"

Killing thousands in a war is bad ass for a Pres, makes legacy and people write books and stuff. Wars make heroes and are cool.

The song "the green green grass of home is about a criminal who is about to be hung who longs for home.
The last verse is:
Then I awake and look around me,
At the four gray walls that surround me,
And I realize that I was only dreaming.
For there's a guard, and there's a sad old padre,
Arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak.
Again, I'll touch the green, green grass of home

Here's one American who hopes that this is a prophecy, and that the lying little punk meets his end the same way as the criminal in the song.

None of that was done to catch terrorists; it was done to control the population...to let these crooks loot with impunity. On the whim that average Americans would actually wake up and take back their country, they protected themselves by installing the road to tyranny.

You let the cat out of the bag. Do you who is going to be McCain's VP? Cheney! thats who and if elected he will keep on running the government and McCain can be the front man this time.

The Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution, sets limits on how long a person can be president, but no limits on the VP.

dipdunk 2008-03-09 05:32:30 PM
I think the president gets more of the blame/credit for the economy than the deserve. The telecom boom under Clinton was caused more by people overvaluing the stock and living well because of more geometric growth in what should have been linear growth. When the market corrected around the time Bush came into the White House, we also had the problems in NY and DC, which did not help the economy.

Right now we have the same problem with dependance on international oil that has plagued us since at least the Carter administration, along with a dollar that is weak and wages that do not seem to be keeping up with prices. Our international debt and annual deficits are a large source of this, the former a problem since before WWII and the latter a problem for at least the last 20 years. Clinton's administration did some creative number rearrangements to make things appear better, but no one from either party has stepped up to the plate and tried to wean us off of cheap energy and federal pork.

There are things this administration has done that I thoroughly disagree with, but in all many of our problems are bipartisan in nature and will require bipartisan cooperation to solve. It is the divisiveness, raw hatred/polarization, and failure of both sides to work together which concern me more than any one person in our government. Unless we work together to solve our common problems, we will continue to follow the same pattern and end up with the same result.

I'm not a huge fan of the guy, but don't you guys feel a little bit lame retreading this still? Sort of like the guy who keeps talking about that party he was at 3 and a half years ago, or the guy who keeps telling the one joke anyone ever laughed at.

Not defending G-dawg Dubblya, just saying the joke's eight years old, and not funny anymore. You no longer get your "enlightened minority" cred for bashing the guy all the time. Instead you get "possibly psychotic obsession" cred. It's time to 'Move On', as they say.

Before McCain gladly accepted Bush's endorsement, I would've laughed in your face for making a remark like that. But now I can almost see that possibility. Maybe.

Of course, if McCain's age and health is an issue, you've got about 50x that adding Cheney into the mix. If Obama gets the nom, all he'd have to do is run ads contrasting himself and his presumably young-ish, healthy running mate with the Grumpy Old Men on the right. Kennedy/Nixon all over again.

Nice, but the guy's still got a massive amount of the entire government under his and his cronies' thumbs, and he's politically going to be at their most dangerous and cornered currently. So no, it's not quite time yet.
