Awesome -- crossing that off my list of things to die of at the China Olympics:

* Terrorists
* Air pollution
* Water poisoning
* Toxic agricultural produce
* Lead
* Counterfeit pharmaceuticals
* Nationalists
* Dioxins
* Carcinogens
* Chinese finger cuffs

Don't be so hasty. You can live with two less fingers.

If Muslims think they are getting a raw deal from America, I can't wait to hear what they think about China's reactions to terrorist attacks

I'm not sure how nuking the Olympics would have benefitted us during the Korean War....

Good on them, I say. If the Chinese are working against terrorism, then that only gives us another common goal.

"Those terrorists, saboteurs and secessionists are to be battered resolutely, no matter what ethnic group they are from," said Mr Wang, who is a member of the Communist Party's politburo.

Tell us how you really feel, Mr Wang

And why, exactly, should we believe anything the Chinese government says?

After all...they still deny that Tianamen Square ever even happened...

From what I've read of the Chinese definitions of terrorists and subversives, this could've been a bunch of guys trying to put up a MySpace page with a photoshopped picture of Mao...

Let's say we take a back seat on this one and let China deal with the threat for a bit. We need some downtime here for maintenance.

I'm sure the Chinese killed them all w/o due process and everything.

Not that I care, but the US gets bad press for waterboarding 4 years ago and the Chinese kill everything that threatens them even the littlest bit.

Now they have the Olympics.

The Chinese are not nice or fair. They stomp on human rights every second of every day.

Your point being that our goal should only be to be less horrible than the Chinese?

Yes we can!

ElwoodPDowd 2008-03-09 10:02:10 AM
0Icky0: Your point being that our goal should only be to be less horrible than the Chinese?

No, my point is that people in the west see someone being slightly inconvenienced and they start screaming about human rights being violated. When it comes to interrogation techniques, the US has some of the most humane in the world. Maybe once China is in the spotlight people will quit biatching about that club med down in Cuba.

0Icky0 2008-03-09 10:04:40 AM
Gothmolly: So why does America love China so much ?

Because they are a thousand times better than they were 50 years ago.
And then there's the whole thing about them outnumbering you by 5:1. And making all of your stuff. And holding a shiatload of your debt.
You can threaten piss-ant countries. But not them.

TatsumaIf Muslims think they are getting a raw deal from America, I can't wait to hear what they think about China's reactions to terrorist attacks

What makes you think China really "thwarted" a terrorist attack? This sounds like a convenient pretext for the Chinese government to suppress a population that they've wanted to target for years.

And the Chinese government is not who you want be screwing around with. They drilled down Tiananmen Square revolt on worldwide TV. Upon discovery of this little plot don't be surprised if groups of people go missing from this event. Facism..Horrible for human rights but if you want you want a nice little olympics you can't beat it.

Perhaps it was just good old fashioned anti-chinese-tyranny activism. Obviously China is gonna play this down and jump on the western terrorism bandwagon.

I'm writing this from China, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies...

...especially the ones advocating retroactive mass murder of civilians

0icky0 I do find it interesting when people from third ("third", not "third world") countries use China's assent to smirk at the US. From what I've seen, China essentially has all the traits that people dislike about the US, only to an even greater degree than we do. That all could change as they continue to modernize, but don't assume that just because they oppose some US actions, you're gonna be happier with them in charge.

0Icky0 2008-03-09 10:19:50 AM

You used to be able to get great tempura green peppers and eggplant from pushcarts in the streets of Hong Kong. But they clamped down on all of that good stuff.

Ascent?

atomicmask 2008-03-09 10:25:41 AM
The more china gets involved the better this is for the united states.

1. It will greatly relieve the stress on our military and budget.

2. Muslims will quickly stop shouting "die USA" and start chanting "SAVE US USA!"

3. China will be cruel and horrible, and that is the only thing the middle east respects.

schoberp [TotalFark] 2008-03-09 10:26:54 AM
0Icky0: Ascent?

No, assent (pops) It's the opposite of dissent.

And do we really think that this is "thwarting a terrorist attack," or is this China's new way of getting around massive human rights violations. With the intense international focus turned on them because of the Olympics, they can't go around just jailing any and all dissidents, so they'll chuck a turban on them and fly them to where there's a large Islamic population.

"No, really, without providing any details whatsoever, we foiled a terrorist attack. Just don't look into any of the details of the killings, and believe we're fighting the Global War on Terror."

Ummm... the opposite of what you said.

I agree with the other two, though.
