1. Why would you protest reproductive rights at a CHILDRENS' FILM?

2. If the red tape across your mouth will shut you up, I'll buy stock in that company.

3. Why do I care that all 12 American Idol contestants were there? Were they naked and on fire? This is about as relevant to my life as the price of lychee in Sudan.

4. Has chanting a slogan at people EVER changed anyone's mind? EVER? (Except to bring the victims accosted by the slogan to the opposing side's viewpoint...just to spite the shouters?)

5. Anyone who tries to put Dr. Seuss' imagination on the screen, instead of enjoying it in the pages of a book, should be taken out and subjected to abortion protestors.

Pro-lifers are learning their protest gimmicks from the wack-o fringe leftists?

That's going to get very confusing. I won't know whether to cringe and pretend I don't know them, actively berate them, or just step over them and try not to spill my tea.

I'm so sad they made a movie of Horton.

For me, it was a nice introduction of the ideas on civil disobedience at 7 years old.

...the group put red tape over their mouths that said "Life" on them, and paraded around the event.

I have never understood this practice. I try hard not to judge what I don't understand, but I'm sure this is stupid - whatever the hell it means.

Tucci: From the previews I've seen, and the talent involved, I'd say it can't be as bad as that shiatty Cat In The Hat which forced Mike Meyers to retire.

Ugh, I really didn't like that movie. It was cute enough, I guess, but Mike Myers wasn't the Cat in the Hat. He was Mike Myers in a cat suit & mugging for the camera.

This was pretty tacky for those pro-lifers to do. There's a time & a place for everything, but this wasn't the time or place for them to protest abortion.

/pro-choice
//may not always like it, but it's the woman's body & her choice--not mine

Yeah, THIS.

Don't rob children of their childhood by bludgeoning them with your adult fears and superstitions. Oh... I guess by that same token you shouldn't terrify them with stories of your invisible God Monster, talking snakes, undead zombie carpenter sons, the ritual cannibalism of communion, etc. etc.

"Get out of my theater."
"No!"

Now the theater owner/manager has three options.

A) Ask "protesters" to leave, call police.
B) Bodily toss the douchebags out of your theater.
C) Do nothing.

Why is it always C?

6. I had 3 abortions, & they were all the right decision fo rme. The one child I gave birth to I gave up for adoption so I think I did the right thing. Abortion really serves a purpose when you're not ready to have children. My Church says birth control is wrong, so I don't do it.

Ok, but if you're in a theater full of children, you're in a room full of people who decided NOT to have an abortion. Seems like a silly place to protest it.

Can't you be pro-life for yourself, and let everyone else decide on the matter? Icky matters like abortion are generally better left for the individual to decide.

bachdog 2008-03-09 08:35:35 AM
Abortion. If you don't want one, don't have one.

If it wasn't abortion though, it would be some other thing that the pro-lifers would get indignant about. Their priest-man would find some other cause for them to occupy their free time and emotions. Rallying around a common enemy makes the group [cult] bond stronger. They love to tell other people how to run their lives based on their interpretations of their religious myths because they lack one themselves.

I'm 100% sure I did, but insulting my faith had zero to do with the conversation, so I decided go lash out at BearToy in a non-constructive manner. If you want my opinion on the topic at hand, these people are idiots who don't need to be protesting at a freaking children's movie.

LOL!

This reminds me of when PETA came to Boston and waited outside the Nutcracker at Christmastime to throw red paint on any moms who came out with their kids after the show. Oh, and to thrust pictures of bloody animals in the faces of the children. Yeah, that went over really well.

I don't care which side you're on, this kind of protesting is ass-hattery at its highest.

Do ya think maybe they were trying to discourage people from going to the movie because they felt guilty about the children that might have been aborted but were now being subjected to this movie? Maybe for once they were thinking of the children.

Wow, this would be surprising to a good friend of mine, who basically fits into the "conservative" mold perfectly except for the fact that he is an atheist. But, stereotypes are a good timesaver.

What is this?
A fetus you say?
Not a sock with a thock,
Nor a bottle-top thay?

Splat did it flip,
Onto the cold floor.
Slither and flither,
It squirmed through the door.

The staff were aghast,
as it ran up the mast.
Screamed it did,
as it fell free and landed on its head.
