It could be worse. Playing Michael Bolton would start an all out riot.

Apparently John Denver (in any form) and alcohol don't mix well.

"Country Roads" is popular all over. Big in Irish pubs. I don't understand it, even tho I'm a big fan of Denvers.

/Alaska Trilogy FTW!

people really identify with west virginia and feel that it is, in fact, almost heaven.

Curse you, John Denver! Even from the grave you torment us. Will humanity never be free of your evil clutches? How many more must die before your vengeful spirit departs forever?

Devolving_Spud 2008-03-08 07:35:19 PM
Like we don't see that headline at least once a month.

//immediately thought of the sound of John Denver being strangled
///You came on my pilllll-oooooowwwwwww WHAGHGHGHGHGH!!!!

Justifiable homicide. Possibly even self-defense.

-So are you Chinese or Japanese?

-I'm Laotian! I'm from LAOS!

.probably not obscure.

Strangely enough, I was on a message board talking about WVU football a while back. One of the posters was an enlisted Army man serving in Iraq who's originally from West Virginia. He was shocked one day when he pulled up at the Taco Bell in Fallujah to find the guy working th drive in window rocking out to Country Roads.

Almost heaven. Bangkok, Thailand.

Phu Phan mountains. Chao Praya river.

Life is cheap there, cheaper than a beer.

Younger that the hookers, faster than fourth gear.

National Review beat FARK to that headline by 8 hours (new window).

You amateurs are pathetic.

Both karaoke and John Denver's music really do suck, but they're not worth a life sentence....

My favorite Denver parody from National Lampoon:

I'm stuck in this old city now where living ain't no fun
Where steel and glass and concrete cancel out the wind and sun
And I'm thinking of last winter now
when we walked hand in hand
In the trails of the Colorado Rockies

The wind sang us a lullaby, the snow was thick as cream,
And icicles were chandeliers like crystal in a dream
And the streams were strips of diamond
And the hills were white as snow,
And a bear ate all our soybeans in the night

Oh, Colorado's calling me
From her hillsides and her rivers and her mesas and her trees,
When blizzards snap the power lines
And all the toilets freeze
In December in the Colorado Rockies

We had time and space and freedom,
We had love and peace to spare
Though we ran out of things to smoke and say and eat and wear
And the morning of the avalanche
The Yeti kidnapped Blanche
And took her to his cave up in the Rockies.

Oh, Colorado's calling me
From her glaciers and her canyons and her badlands and ravines,
And infectious hepatitis
Was all that came to stay
In January in the Colorado Rockies

The baby didn't die until we'd burned up all our wood
Considering we ate her raw, she tasted pretty good
Then the fascist health inspectors
Dug us out and mailed us home --
Except for Blanche who wouldn't leave her mate.

Oh, Colorado's calling me
From her mountains and her rivers and her meadows and her trees
They tell me I'll be cured soon
Thawed and ready to return
When it's April in the Colorado Rockies.

As a farktective, I have a few questions...

Mr Chumkamnerd
Some kind of salmon-desiring-geek family?

who works as a rubber tapper
Trojan or Durex?

he did not notice he had murdered his own brother-in-law
Because they all look alike? (karaoke singers)

Immediately what I thought of.

They'd let you sing, they would invite you,
But the songs they use would not excite you.

FunkOut [TotalFark] 2008-03-08 08:05:15 PM
There was a mention of this in some Doonesbury strips awhile back, where the Jimmy Thudpucker character was hanging out in SE Asia playing country-folk to crowds of people who thought John Denver was God or something like that.

GrumpyDad 2008-03-08 08:08:36 PM
Sorry,I can't understand this. As bad as I hate "Rap" music I don't think I would kill anyone for singing or listening to it! I guess the karoke must have been reeeaaalllyyy baaaddd.
