I honestly don't see how this is any more stupid or any more of a waste of time than any other fantasy sports league. In fact, I think a fishing one is probably more interesting.

What's so bad about a cesspit of apathy and sloth?

Pegasus_CAG 2008-03-08 12:34:31 PM
Subby makes it sound like humanity isn't already in a cesspit of apathy and sloth.

subby: promote the ultimate downfall of humanity into a cesspit of apathy and sloth..

A friend of mine's father competes in bass-fishing tournaments.

His son, not so much of a fisherman, but a damned good physicist.

RobbieFal 2008-03-08 12:43:17 PM
But if I joined a fantasy fishing league, I wouldn't be able to hold as many TV Parties. So, i'll pass.

At least The Hulkster's getting paid for promoting something bound to fail.

I mean, Ric Flair probably didn't get anything out of campaigning for Mike Huckabee.

Whatever. Call me when there's a fantasy fantasy league, where I can draft fantasy league players together and create a fantasy team of fantasy team players.

Sounds like this guy really wants to hook the Hulk. I doubt he will take the bait though.

I just got attuned to the Atlantic Ocean last night. Soon as the guild logs on we're going after Daggermouth. I hope he drops the Rod of Carp Slaying.

Nakito 2008-03-08 01:01:26 PM
There is a Dilbert comic strip in which Dogbert (I believe) is mocking Dilbert for sitting in a chair reading a book to help him improve his virtual skills at playing a computerized game that simulates golf. It perfectly captured how far we have removed ourselves from actually living our lives in the real world.

And yet I cannot find that cartoon with Google searches. Did I dream it?

reagabeast 2008-03-08 01:05:25 PM

I WANT THAT!

Nakito: And yet I cannot find that cartoon with Google searches. Did I dream it?

Pardon me for quoting myself. But I just realized that by using my computer to search Google to find an electronic version of a cartoon depicting a man reading a book to teach him how better to play a computer simulation of a real game, I have added at least two more levels of abstraction.

I am going outside. I don't care if it's raining.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Al Gore had in mind when he invented Internets.

Nakito

You made me laugh. Now I have to go outside, and it's snowing here. With ice underneath.

That sounds amusing. I think I'll fantasize about Salma Hayek that idea.

I was wondering whether to walk to the library today or tomorrow. Now I have to walk there today. OK, I'll be looking for books, which are at least one level of abstraction removed from physical experiences, but hey, they're physical objects and walking is a real activity.

(Fantasy Farming League? Doesn't "Harvest Moon" sort of implement that?)

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and he'll sit in a boat drinking all day.

"It will create awareness," Jacobs said. "More boats will be sold. That's not just a probability but a high probability."

Whoa slow down with the math there, Pascal McFermat! I haven't had to multiply boats by awareness since high school. ...Carry the 1, divide by pi, cosine the denominatrix...

But what happens to your league standings if your boat captain dies heroically at the end of the season?

/Dad caught a hundred-pound sturgeon on twenty-pound test....
