FTA: A state lawmaker wants to give the "King of Beers" its own kingdom by making Budweiser the official beer of Missouri.

OMG, a new political trend. Next, Colorado will make Coors its official state beer and so on.

I guess, the big question next is: Will New York make MD 20-20 its official state wine?

As one of fark's beer snobs, may I remind the state that Budweiser is some nasty brown rice drink and calling it a beer should be a capital crime.

"We've got a state dinosaur, a state frog, a state reptile, a state flower, a state nut, but no one has given a thought to a company that's been in Missouri for many, many years and is bringing prosperity to our state and manufacturing a product in our state that many people enjoy," Dougherty said.

Enough said.

As a St. Louisan, I have to add that there is a significant portion of the population that will not drink that crap.

Schlafly is from St. Louis and produces a decent product. Also, Boulevard in Kansas City makes some pretty good beer.

The best AB products in my opinion are AmberBock (it's pretty good for an AB product) and Kirin Ichiban (brewed under authority).

I wasn't aware there was a better beer than Budweiser.

I've tried obscure micro-brews, I liked Dos Equis for a while, Rolling Rock is great, Moosehead, Sam Adams has some good stuff, Amber Bock, but for the price + alcohol content + taste, I keep coming back to Budweiser.

If you're looking for high alcohol content in beer, try Unibreu. It's approximately 8% or 9% per bottle.

I knew I'd see Schlafly and Boulevard here before even clicking on the thread. And yes, driving around this area is a farking hazard to your health. At least the signs on the freeway were finally updated around 2005-2006. Before then, half the signs MODOT used were these dim contraptions with letters screwed into place and made "reflective" with these shiddy screw hole covers. The finished product was about as visible as an outdoor market to an octogenarian behind the wheel of a Crown Vic... or maybe speed limits signs on St. Charles Rock.

Not sure if you're trolling, but Anheuser-Busch does better beers than Budweiser. I got sick of the aftertaste not too long after my first six pack - it's akin to what I imagine formaldehyde would taste like. When I want a cheap beer, I reach for the best. I reach for the only one with NATURAL carbonation. I reach for a BUSCH.

Not fixing potholes is Columbia and Mayor Hind-end. He's so into "green" biking to work that, I guess he's decided not to fix the potholes in the road. He's a jack@ss.

Not to threadjack this away from the beer snobs but...

Can this guy be serious? His comparison to of a state beer to a state frog etc is bullshiat. One is a megacorp. brand and the others are just stuff.

He wants the state to advertise for Budweiser. Can I get that with my state endorsed pretzels? If he were proposing the state drink to be beer then fine but he is giving one company preference at a state level. Anheuser-Busch may be a good employer and good contributor to his campaign funds but this just seems like a politician being an outright corporate shill.

Kidding aside, Boulevard is all I drink when I'm in KC, and I drink it on occasion here as well for a change.

Let us take this opportunity to stand together in agreement and state whatever the end result, the official Missouri beer should not be farking Budweiser.

Amen to that. When I did the Katy Trail with friends (mostly KC and Lawrence, but one StL County), we made the agreement to only drink Schlafly east of Jeff City and Boulevard west of Jeff City.

What about the potholes they fill in with too much? Like making your car jerk to the right instead of the left is any better for it...

And hopefully I don't get my St. Louis citizenship revoked for stating that Budweiser/Bud Light/Busch/Busch Light/Bud Select all taste like piss. Out of A-B's stuff, I only actually enjoy Michelob's stuff.

We were biking/camping the trail which doesn't directly go through Columbia. In a proper college town, yes, you'd go to the brewpub (Flat Branch, Free State in Lawrence, the Great Dane in Madison, etc).

St. Louis style BBQ?

I have to be honest I don't think I've ever once heard anyone reference St. Louis style BBQ, so I think you are more than likely confused. I don't even know where you would find such a thing--there are no BBQ joints in St. Louis that I'm even aware of that aren't just part of some national chain. There was about a 12 year stretch where I was away at college and working in NYC and Europe so perhaps it was just a fad that came and went in the mid 90s?

As for your game 7 comment, I'll grant you that. Then again, I'm also thankful I don't have to hang my hat on the fact the most recent championship my town won came during the first term of the Reagan Administration.

I've never done this before, so excuse me if I do it wrong.

THIS. Especially in the summer. I love sitting on the patio of a few different bars on the plaza or in westport when it's 100 degrees outside and knocking down some Bully Wheats. I REALLY miss the Ten Penny Ale. It used to be insanely popular until people found out it was only like 2.8%.
