What do you call a migrant at sea? Bob

SoothinglyDeranged [TotalFark] 2008-03-07 10:14:37 PM
That would be completely asinine if it weren't for the fact that such an assumption was based off of one story where the boat seemed to suspiciously lack the fishing equipment needed for it to actually be a fishing boat that was trying to save drowning migrants. So I guess that really is asinine. Funny how things circle like that.

So, you better put that migrant back where you found him, mister! And don't give me that look.

It's also why the Coast Guard never tells you to pick up any of the floating bales of drugs you might find in the waters of the Florida Straits.

What about catch and release?

Yeah... When I read the story, it sounded more like a defense attorney's spin than what actually happened. Next we'll be hearing about a floating pallet of heroin that was "rescued at sea".

I like the ones that are smart enough to wear life vests. I use them for a makeshift slalom course.

I hate it when they try to swim through the rare man-eating shark habitat I've set up. It completely ruins their appetite.

If I bring them back to mow my yard, am I exempt?

Obscure Law:

If the migrant has saddled and is riding a Manatee, then simply looking at them for longer than 5 seconds is jail time.

From one of the links in the article:

The charges of facilitating illegal immigration relate to the prosecution's assertion, based on the absence of nets or ice for chilling the catch on board, that the fishing boats were in fact "mother ships" involved in migrant smuggling networks, responsible for carrying the migrants in international waters before disembarking them into smaller vessels (that have not been found) nearer to the island. The disappearance of the dinghy, a vessel that, it is argued, does not normally sink, is a further element in the reconstruction on which the charges are based. The defendants claim that they were on a duly authorised fishing expedition in international waters in which their role consisted in lighting the sea bottom to help another vessel to drag its nets, and that the dinghy sunk as it filled with water as its passengers climbed onto the fishing boats.

Nice lashing out, but wrong. Happened several times on the Arizona border until the U.S. Attorney's Office stopped taking the cases.

Dolphin usually hold just beneath them...free lining livies keeping your distance..and i guarantee hook up every time....taunting the migrants spook the fish...dont do that...

PS: and even if that assertion /were/ right...well, right on. That's just what Europe needs, 500 million stone agers expecting full room and board in Europe.

The next time you tell the police a whopping fish story about rescuing drowning illegal migrants without any proof, don't be surprised if the don't believe your story.

FTFY, subby.

What if you just have a long dragline with lots of hooks and you motor slowly by and snag them one by one and tow them in? You haven't actually "rescued" them, at least they're not on your boat...

Here in Florida, there are migrants washing ashore every day. One time, some friends and I were a couple miles off the coast doing a little fishing, and we saw what appeared to be several Haitians drowning. We moved the boat closer and we were relieved to find out that it was just whale shiat.

Relieved? Whale shiat stinks and floats.

Why the hell would I want to rescue them???

moothemagiccow 2008-03-08 01:36:44 AM
Stop the spin. The people were 'rescued' from a dinghy by Tunisian fisherman, who had no fishing gear ("nets or ice for chilling the catch on board") and brought to Italy.

The disappearance of the dinghy, a vessel that, it is argued, does not normally sink, is a further element in the reconstruction on which the charges are based.

This means it is just as likely that these Tunisians brought the migrants on the boat all the way from their place of origin.

What do you think Haitians do, wash ashore freshly showered and ready for work at the office?

I'm pretty sure all Haitians sink. At least all the stories I read tell me they do (Unless white man buoyancy saves them).

Ah, I see submitter must have donated all his disposable income to children starving in Africa.

I do find it particularly ironic that in this case it's the Europeans rejecting Africans, when those same Europeans resent Americans for their treatment of Native Americans and in recent years Mexican and Hispanic illegal immigrants.

We've all done things wrong in the past. We could all do better. It's not a blue or red thing, American or European. It's a human thing.

And for the lesser-informed amongst us, that statue came from Europe. I guess it's pretty damn symbolic that they gave it to us; obviously they don't share the sentiment.

Probably because they were already chalk full of said huddled masses.

One part of me says that they sent them all here, and that is the reason they don't have many these days. The other part says our own government has failed us so terribly that we are now worse off than the kind of lives we aimed to escape.

Yea, let's have more handouts for non-contributors!

No wonder you support Barack HUSSEIN Obama.

Yeah it's European's fault they don't want criminals in their countries.
