It's wintertime. In lockdown he gets a warm place to sleep and three squares.

When I read that headline I thought it meant that he had been arrested 452 times in the last seven days. That's, what, three arrests per hour?

/if you're gonna be a "career criminal"...

I like the poll on the page...
Is it offensive for Robert Downey, Jr. to portray a black man in his new film?
Yes, It's completely inappropriate13%
It's mildly insensitive10%
Absolutely not77%

I thought there was a race war.../hmm

You'd think that after the 50th time or so, they'd hold him for a few more hours. Unless, of course, someone's pushing for a little more leeway when it comes to dealing with vagrants.

That's pure awesome. He is currently detained for alcohol intoxication...

Why don't they just leave him locked up or shoot him out back?

Is a week long enough to book someone 452 times?

yotta 2008-03-08 07:30:47 AM
Salt Lake authorities say their top offender is a man who they have dealt with more than 1,000 times between 2002 and 2006. In more than 600 of those run-ins, the unidentified man was arrested.

Still not good enough. But Salt Lake City has never exactly been known for its colorful people.

momule 2008-03-08 07:39:32 AM
Arresting habitual drunks is lots easier than dealing with real bad guys......already knows Miranda rights, already knows how to to book em Danno, doesnt complain about long booking time or bad breakfast the day after.
Some folk are happier with a more structured environment.

This makes the law look dumber than an old drunk guy.

/lil help here?

That's like one arrest every 22 minutes. They must process criminals fast in Salt Lake City.

Lotsa ice and snow in Lexington recently. Got another storm moving in today. No sense having Henry freeze to death, just keep him warm and fed until it thaws, then let him go.

MakJeezus 2008-03-08 08:12:50 AM
you know...

For being homeless in the winter in Utah, getting arrested 452 times in a week isn't a bad strategy.

No three strikes law, then?

What part don't you get?
Why the police haven't executed a man for getting drunk and disorderly 900 times?
Because how would you like everyone at your New Years Eve party being sentenced to death for celebrating New Years Eve?
Henry Earl is just celebrating being alive.

/you're an asshole.
//This guy has 452 arrests in 2 years, Henry has 942 in 20 years, it's like he's the best rookie.

"Salt Lake authorities say their top offender is a man who they have dealt with more than 1,000 times between 2002 and 2006. In more than 600 of those run-ins, the unidentified man was arrested."

You would think they would have identified him after the first 900 arrests.

Must be a minor if they didn't release the name. Arrests are a matter of public record.

You go, kid!

I have to thank Henry Earl for leading me to Fark a few years ago...

There was an article in the Lexington newspaper about Mr. Earl and his exploits - in the article, it told about how he was a favorite of Fark and it's members. I have been coming here ever since. It showed a few of the mugshots and I was laughing so loud that my boss came into my office to ask me what was so funny.

SwiftFox [TotalFark] 2008-03-08 11:04:33 AM
Wilson Yazzie Benally has a long history with Salt Lake City Police and remains one of the department's most-arrested individuals. His run-ins with the law date back to 1995, officials said.

13 years? Jeeze, how long can you live in a place and still be considered a "transient" instead of a resident? Yup, he's going to transit off to Provo, any minute now...

I agree ... what a waste of time and resources (which are being funded by our tax dollars, I'm sure). Why should we coddle some homeless person that's obviously learned to milk the system for a free meal and a roof over his head? I can see it happening a handful of times, but several hundred? That's just ridiculous.

/get a job

Or the police just didn't feel the need to drag that guy's name (any further) through the mud, and the reporters were too lazy to look it up.

/ "Could they be the miners?"
// "Sure, they're like 5 years old..."

As long as Earl's been at it, how is it possible for him to get drunk anymore? His alcohol tolerance must be so high that it'd take a bottle of PGA just to get him tipsy.

If they would keep this garbage locked up, they wouldn't have to keep dealing with him. He won't follow the rules of society, he needs to be removed from it.
