Next, they will attempt to turn vegetarian fish in hysterical neo-hippy vegans.

Preliminary experiments have resulted in fish starving to death.

Wonderful. Just wonderful. I don't care

Damn. Supposed to be a link.
Sorry.

Just_Another_Arsehole 2002-11-03 08:15:47 PM
is that ovo-lacto vegetarian or vegan?

Thales 2002-11-03 08:16:09 PM
Wouldn't they have to do a little more than trick the fish into eating plants? Are the fish able to digest the plants efficiently enough to get enough nutrition? You could trick people into eating cotton but I don't think they'd live very long.

FalconWolfKnight 2002-11-03 08:21:57 PM
It depends Thales, they could be getting them to eat pellets or fish feed made of plants, such as soy, providing the necessary protien to sustain and grow large fish.

Thales 2002-11-03 08:26:47 PM
True but when they start the feeding frenzy I would expect at least some of the farm fish to be canibalized. Also I wonder if PETA is for the re-training of carnivorous animals to vegitarians.

Vegemitarians. Creatures that subsist solely on Vegemite. That which does no kill us makes us wish we were dead and makes our breath smell like curdled yeast.

Forget plants, I say we all live on Soylent Green.

Thales 2002-11-03 09:06:17 PM
I'm just imagining a lion with glasses and a ponytail, talking about how PETA helped him see how cruel he was being to the zebras.

Congratulations. They've re-inveted the plecostomus.

Bondith 2002-11-03 09:33:14 PM
Yes, but how many people want grilled plecostomus or plecostomus salad?

Tsunami 2002-11-03 09:34:50 PM
Whoa... how many outside of the "commenwealth" know what Boffins are?

Once worked for an limie entreprenuer a bazillion years ago and his favorite phase was "%$^@%# bofin-boys" when the engineers wanted to reinvent the wheel instead of using parts off-the shelf.

We need a new tag for fark BOFFINS

"Yes, but how many people want grilled plecostomus or plecostomus salad?"

Give 'em time. They're a bit far down the "we've wiped out every other kind of fish so let's see how they taste on a kaiser roll" list, but we're getting there. :)

I like blueberry boffins, m'self. My wife is partial to the ones with icing on top.

Yes, let's have more racist stereotypes that are 20 years out of date.

What, plecostomus?

I can't be the only one wondering: what in slang hell is a Boffin?

Bondith 2002-11-04 01:10:51 AM
Boffin: Pommy term meaning techie or mechanic/inventor.

See also Q (of James Bond fame) or any British WWII movie involving the development of new weapons.

Bondith 2002-11-04 01:12:06 AM
Boffin (2): Small creature resembling a hobbit.

Jex 2002-11-04 01:19:42 AM
Thank you.

I am all for this. From the sounds of it, they are not genetically altering the fish, they are medicating them to get them to chomp everything in sight.

If I read it correctly, that would force the anti-genetics freaks to shut the f up. Also, if these fish were to escape into the wild (which is a well documented problem, especially with franken-salmon) they would not get that drug in nature, and thus they would eat normal things, or better yet, they would not be able to eat normal food and they would die before screwing up the native populations. Either way, this is good right?

Excellent.

FISHBAIT

Dr.Jones 2002-11-04 02:54:09 PM
What the hell are we doing to our animals?!? Our cows are on steroids, our chickens are featherless so we don't have to pluck 'em, our chihuahuas fit in teacups, and now our fish eat spinach.
Good Lord.
