(Huffington Post) Interesting In 2000, a Senate candidate called it "frankly disturbing" that her opponent, Rick Lazio, refused to release his tax returns and even sent a man dressed as Uncle Sam to protest at his events. That candidate's name? Hillary Clinton   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 96

Well to be fair, as an avowed socialist Hillary certainly considers all private weatlh to be government property. So fileing a tax return is a bit redundant when the government already owns 100% of your income.

Not less deplorable for sure.

Less aceeptable, not so much. Mudslinging and dirty tactics have been part and parcel of the American political landscape since the early 19th century, even before. It has been acceptable all that time and will probably remain so as so often the winners of these contests use these tactics.

I'm hardly "young" and while I hope to get the chance to vote for Obama for president I wouldn't use "maniac" to describe my enthusiasm for him as a candidate.

Ask yourself, however --- six months after the election when all the improprieties and bogus electoral rolls and financial shenanigains are revealed, who do you think will have more check marks in the "scandal" column? Barack or Hillary?

How many times in her life has Hillary had the suffix "-gate" attached to her personal or business or political dealings?

Son_Dee 2008-03-06 05:46:21 PM
This is what I'm talking about!! This is what my man B-Rock needs to do at this stage in the game.

Set the tone. Be the initiator, not the responder. And there's a way to do so WITHOUT slinging mud or getting into dirty politics.

One of the ways is like this. Simply ask a question. "Why won't Hillay release her tax returns as she said she would in the interest of full disclosure?" Then simply sit back and watch as she lies and double talks her way into trouble.

With all of Clinton's spin and her 35 years of baggage, she can't help but contradict herself. So, again, Obama doesn't have to get dirty. He merely has to ask question and/or be the first one to bring up certain topics. Clinton will do the rest of the damage to herself on her own.

/Yes I'm saying she's a masochist
//More proof is her staying married to Bill all these years
///Probably going to get called a misogynist for calling Hillary a masochist

I hate it when people slap a -gate on something. Watergate wasn't even that big of a scandal, it was just the last nail in the coffin of an incredibly unpopular president.

It was also the last time the Media really did its job in outing government corruption in an effective manner, insofar as I know.

Hey, Subster, doesn't naming Lazio in the headline sort of give it away? That was a pretty high profile race, after all. Lazio was parodied on SNL, etc. (For some reason he was drinking milk. I'm not sure what that was a reference too. Maybe they were just implying that he looked like a little kid next to Hillary.)

Heh. He's a lobbyist for the financial industry and an EVP at Chase now. Which probably means he spends all day writing checks to Chuck Schumer.

Man, what a putz that guy was. Spent the whole campaign out on Long Island reminding people that he wasn't Hillary Clinton while she was schlepping all over upstate learning the name and former industry of every piece of crap broken city up there, shaking hands and promising that the few people left could sell their milk at four bucks a gallon (which they can).

puffy999: I know you troll and don't pay attention, but I wanted to remind everyone how ignorant this post was regarding the Obamaniacs and their knowledge of history, as well as their opinions on the historic political game.

If I troll, which is not really accurate since I think trolls are only trying to grab attention without having a real stance on the issue, it is only a little. I do have a stance, all politicians are filthy scum-sucking sewer-dwelling rats who lie and would run over their own grandmother if it would help them get elected.

As a corollary to that belief I think the government that governs best governs least. I'm pro-gridlock. The less Congress and the President can do the better off I think the country will be.

I simply like to keep these points in everyone's mind. Right now the big sport seems to be attacking Hilary Clinton. And the attacks are being carried out for the most part by Obama's supporters. I just like to drop reminders here and there that contrary to his public image Obama is just another politician. His goals and his tactics used to achieve those goals are not so far removed from Clinton's or McCain's nor any other politician who has run for President.

/sorry for the length but I get tired of Obamaites who declare anyone who doesn't sing the highest praises for Obama a troll.

I hate it when people get history wrong. The break-in at the Democratic National Headquarters located in the Watergate hotel on June 17, 1972 started the process of unraveling the presidency of Nixon. Even as the scandal started to unfold Nixon won an enormous electoral landslide in 1972 only failing to carry one state and DC.

Watergate was not the final nail in the coffin for an unpopular President. It was the beginning of the undoing of a president who enjoyed enormous support but was too paranoid to know it.

Totally.

But in other news, this is why it'd really be helpful if the campaign had a Farker on it. I'm sure Obama would use this shiat in two seconds flat. Or on something like Olbermann's show. HE'D definitely use it.

Consider the fact that you have to be 50 years old this year to have ever gotten a presidential ballot without the name Clinton or Bush on it (1976 was the last one). Among those people not 50? Barack Obama. He was in high school the last time BushOrClinton wasn't on the ballot. And Bush very nearly was the VP choice in 76... that pushes Obama back to grade school.

Or we could start a civil war that decades later is attributed to ending mudslinging even though we're actually going to wage it for completely different reasons.

Ah, hell, mudslinging and dirty tactics have been part of politics ever since Og and Thror faced off to determine who would lead the tribe's mastodon hunt - the only difference is that they used real mud. Politics is about power, pure and simple. That's not always a bad thing, mind you - hell, someone has to be in charge, and it's not going to be some schmuck with a personality like Ed in Accounting; it's going to be someone with ambition to spare. If we're lucky, it's someone with vision and skills in equal measure to that ambition, but this is by no means assured. Politics is a blood sport - always has been, always will be.
