Fark that smug bastard Wolfson.

You want to run on your "record?" The record gets scrutinized. End of story. Your hyperboles have no power here.

"I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr Karl Rove is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president. But perhaps that theory will be tested," *I* say.

Tit, meet Tat.

uh wait... what?!

a) equating questioning clinton on her practices and policies akin to starr... like she has never attacked obama...

b) does she REALLY want to bring starr's name next to hers again?

every night i pray that she gets a stroke. something maybe that causes her to just mumble incoherently and crap her pants uncontrollably.

or maybe she does that already.

keytronic 2008-03-06 04:47:40 PM
Oh dear,

Hillary Clinton just opened the door for a lot of talking about Kenn Starr.

That's a double-edged sword if I've ever seen one.

swankywanky 2008-03-06 04:49:33 PM
A plane is flying to a big political convention and suddenly the cockpit looses pressure, making the pilot and co-pilot pass out cold.

Looking for someone with flying experience, all of the McCain suporters on board start to shout out "Is anyone here an Air Force vet? They can fly the plane and save us!" but no one answers.

Then all the Obama supporters yell out "Is anyone here a pilot or has taken any flying lessons? They can fly the plane and save us!" but no one answers.

Then all of the Clinton supporters yellow out: "We know who can save us from this disaster! Is anyone here a pilot's wife?"

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said Obama's statement that he plans to be more critical of Clinton's record is reminiscent of the attacks the Clintons endured during the investigations in the 1990s.

Except the difference is that Starr's attacks in the 90s were not justified.

Good, so the Clinton campaign has just opened up the possibility to scrutinize Hillary's bed troubles and her complete disregard for her husband's infidelity, and his whole "President lying under oath" thing? Who wants to start?

Eight Arguments Against Hillary Clinton

Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would be vastly preferable to John McCain. Having said that, there are a lot of good reasons for Democrats to support Obama over Clinton.

1. The Clinton Restoration - This problem has bothered me as long as Hillary Clinton has been considered a presidential contender. Philosophically, I don't like the idea of the Clintons doing an end run around the 22nd amendment. Pragmatically, what makes us think that they will accomplish universal healthcare, and other items on the progressive agenda, when they already failed once?

2. The Need to Look "Tough" - The scenario: Hillary Clinton has just been sworn in, and Iranian aircraft are harassing American warships. The media are all buzzing about how this is a big test of whether Clinton is "strong" and "tough" (=militaristic) enough to be President. Conservatives want her to bomb Iran back to the Stone Age. Her Democrat allies, especially women, are worried that if she looks weak (=open to diplomacy) she will not only cripple her own presidency but haunt female presidential contenders for decades. Hello, World War III.

3. Bill's Big Mouth - This is one thing I didn't see coming. Despite his reputation as a masterful politician, Bill has been a complete ass during his wife's presidential campaign. (I will leave it to psychiatrists to figure out why.) Comparing Obama to Jesse Jackson was about the stupidest thing he could have said. He will probably think of something equally dim to say about John McCain. Is he going to compare him to James Stockdale? All these POWs are alike, right?

4. Another Part of Bill's Anatomy - 'Nuff said.

5. The Scandals - We all know the list. Hillary Clinton argues that she has been tested and survived, whereas Obama hasn't. This argument makes some sense, until you realize how many of the Clintons' problems were self-inflicted. There is a good reason why Obama has never had to convince people to overlook an affair with a subordinate - because he hasn't had one. (Or if he has, he has been remarkably discreet.) There is also a good reason why he hasn't been investigated for taking money from China... You get the idea.

6. "Relitigating the Sixties" - These words from Obama convinced me more than any others. Pardon my profanity, but I'm tired of hearing about the f&*king Vietnam War protests, f&*king Woodstock, and all the other f&*king cultural detritus that Baby Boomer liberals carry in their flower-painted VW microbuses of political nostalgia. These things happened before I was born. Barack Obama was making mud pies at the time. That's a good thing.

7. New QB, New Playbook - The Republicans have been fighting the Clintons for years now, and they know all of their tricks: the triangulation maneuver, the blame-the-accuser defense, the "I'm getting verklempt" ploy, etc. With Obama, it's a whole new ballgame.

8. Opinions have Hardened on Clinton - Once people have developed an opinion about a national figure, it is hard to change their minds. Take Al Gore. Just about every significant stance he took in his political life has been vindicated, but his critics could care less. If Jehovah Himself parted the clouds and said that Gore was right about everything, then Fox News and right-wing talk radio would be filled with people trying to undermine His credibility as a source. The same thing holds for Hillary (who has definitely NOT been right about everything.) Nothing is going to change a lot of people's opinions about her. Obama largely has a clean slate, and even many conservatives find him to be an appealing person.

Ok Hillary:

1) Whitewater
2) Travel office
3) Chinese influence
4) Pardons
5) Rezko (yeah, you know him too, pal)
6) Norman Hsu (what about the money in the past he gave you that you didn't give back)
7) Access to docs that no First Lady can have access to (because you don't have security clearance as First Lady, surprise!)

All of these are crap the R's shat out in droves. None of them are closed issues.

Most of them are baseless, but you know what? You wanna play dirty, you lose.

Renart 2008-03-06 04:55:25 PM
Obama's people need to dig up the footage of Hillary demanding that Rick Lazio release his tax returns. That was a huge issue for her in her first senatorial campaign, but I'm sure in her case it was totally different and not Ken Starry at all.

The contempt this woman has for the public's intelligence is stunning.

Responses like this is why the media or Obama will never directly call Clinton on whether her 8 yrs as first lady actually count as experience (my wife's a cardiologist, so I must be able to perform open-heart surgery?) or go after Whitewater/Hsu.

My personal political view is that if you are gonna start slinging mud, you better be able to take. Her tactic on the other hand, is go Rovian on Obama, wait for a counter-attack, then go screaming to the media the the big black man is scaring her. Seems to be working good so far, maybe she can do another SNL sketch on it...

olafmetal 2008-03-06 04:58:15 PM
One of Obama's biggest themes is transparency.

If Hilliary had practiced transparency when she was first lady Ken Star would never have needed to be appointed. The lack of transparency in her current campaign shows she really hasn't learned anything.

admittedly, I'm ignorant of this whole ordeal, but I'm wondering why I never see the news outlets pick up on Hillary's connection to this guy as well. Hell, I had never heard of that guy until Hillary brought him up in that one debate and almost immediately a picture of her with Rezko was posted on Fark...

Bill hasn't said anything much more outrageous than Ms. Clinton's campaign director or some higher-ups in her campaign. Even his Jesse comment wasn't quite what SNL pulled on the same episode Hillary was on.

New York Times

Mr. Lazio pledged to release his tax returns soon after entering the Senate race in May, but had not done so, raising suspicions about whether he had the kind of financial problems that have tripped up other politicians in New York in recent decades.

The campaign of his Democratic opponent, Hillary Rodham Clinton, criticized the delay, asking whether he was hiding something. The State Democratic Party even sent a young campaign worker dressed as Uncle Sam to Mr. Lazio's campaign events, to shout at him to disclose the returns.

'Rick Lazio can't explain why it took three months to release his taxes,' said Howard Wolfson, a Clinton campaign spokesman. 'Now he won't come clean with New Yorkers and reveal the real cost of his reckless trillion-dollar tax plan. It's time for Mr. Lazio to stop playing games and start talking straight.'

he actually (finally!) did this last night. On the plane he brought up the fact that she keeps touting all of this "foreign relations experience" then he asked what it all was exactly.

honestly, I think he is playing chess here while she's playing checkers. he know that if he got this far it would not be easy to get over that last hurdle, so he's being patient and waiting for the right time to let her have it.

hope he doesn't play his hand too long, though - it's about time now, especially if the media picks up on the fact that he may pull out Texas as a big win after the caucuses are tallied

Wow, she is getting DESPERATE!

Knowing it's nearly impossible for her to catch Obama, she is throwing any and every bit of smear and slime anyone can think of.

Next wee: "No, he's not as bad as Ken Starr, he's as bad as Hitler!"

She's become completely classless. Meanwhile, Barack just keeps on truckin'.

Doc Daneeka 2008-03-06 05:02:25 PM
So she can attack and lie and smear for the past couple weeks, during which time Obama has kept the gloves on, and that's all ok. But the moment Obama says it's time to critically examine Hillary's record (which, after all, she's running on her experience), then suddenly she's the poor victimized women being picked on by the boys' club.

Maybe she should cry to the media some more about unfair treatment, because the media are easily manipulated, and that strategy seemed to work for her.

Unless she did, in fact, access them (without clearance). Which would be even more amazing scoop for the media. Hillary's ego makes me wonder... if she gets pressured enough about her record, if she may slip and admit something she shouldn't.
