eqtworld: /except for the active duty military veteran part

And the kids in active military duty part.

What's this guy's point, except that rarely do the best leaders wind up getting elected, anywhere?

John McCain isn't some Olympian hero

Yeah, his performance on the parallel bars is especially disappointing.

Failed campaigns? How many times has he been elected Senator?

Tell us about your glorious life, Mr. Preston.

So the guy served honorably in the military, got captured and held for a few years and tortured, has been serving as a Senator with out any scandals? And his son serves in the military?
Yes I can see why the democrats hate this guy??????
// Oh wait ... there was that picture of him and President Bush that must be it.

has been serving as a Senator with out any scandals?

Err...

Anyway, yeah, personally I think all three of the remaining candidates suck to some extent, just in markedly different ways. But, hell, most people are "just bastard covered bastards with bastard filling", and politicians aren't known for their general superiority. Lets pick the least bastard-ish one and get on with it.

"he Ethics Committee concluded that Glenn's and McCain's involvement in the scheme was minimal.[1] The committee recommended censure for Cranston and criticized the other four for "questionable conduct."

That's not enough to discredit his life.

I don't think most Democrats "hate" him just like I don't think most Republicans "hate" Obama. That's why I'd like to see a match-up between these two - once Hillary's out of the race, we'll have an election featuring candidates people are voting FOR rather than AGAINST.

randomjsa 2008-03-06 11:07:25 AM
But he'll win in a landslide because every Democrat that claimed Kerry's experience as a "war veteran" made Kerry uniquely qualified to be president will now vote for McCain.

FTA

It's a terrific show and first-class entertainment, sure enough, but are those who remain, remotely the best?

No. We don't have a parliamentary system, where the best of each ideology gets a shot at leadership, leaving only one of the best of a particularly ideology.

Our leaders are jacks-of-all-trades. Leaders of 2 parties, that have to cover all the bases you Europeans divided between a 1000 different parties.

John McCain is a duff sort of pensioner who gruffly totters about the lane with a trolley whilst chiding ASBO's for huffing their fags near the towne centre. I say, guv, spare a fiver for a bottle of coffee? Harumph. I say, those were the heady days when we had orgies after the proletarian solidarity meetings at my red brick!

McCain underwent years of torture without breaking, and yet, he's displayed an eagerness to sacrifice his principles (including his anti-torture stance) to score political points.

John McCain: strong against the North Vietnamese, weak against the special interests.

Also, he looks like a clammy mass of foreskin.

oh yeah, this is Fark...RTFA is optional at best...

John McCain is the king of double-talk and hypocrisy.

He hands out favors to his buddies and then preaches about ethics.

He wants to reform campaigning and then wants to break the rules he himself put into place.

He criticizes the war when it's doing bad, and adopts it as his own when it starts going better.

He going to stand on the national security platform in the general election, but said he would have started a drawn out war in the middle east even if he knew there were no WMDs.

He was against the Bush tax cuts before he was in favor of them.

He claims to be the "maverick," the "outsider," and blasts lobbyist influence on Washington, then goes to some hotel to bang one of them.

Shall I go on?

what_now [TotalFark] 2008-03-06 11:22:37 AM
Blues_X: Wait... divorcing the wife who waited for you while you were a prisoner of war so you can get a rich blond hottie, who you then cheat on with a lobbyist blond hottie, isn't a sign of great personal quality?

The vast majority of this country doesn't care who their politicians are farking, as long as everyone is a consenting adult (Mark Foley) and it's not blatently hypocrical (Larry Craig).

For evidence I offer Clinton's overwhelmingly high approval rating during the height of the Lewinsky affair.

McCain could be caught in bed with Ted Kennedy, Chris Matthews and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, and it would have nothing to do with effectivness as a senator or president.

You forgot 'gold digging adulterer'. Does anyone really think he would have become a senator were it not for the riches and high society social status he gained through his marriage to his second wife? How about the poor disabled first wife he threw under the bus in order to get to it? Sleazy bastard.

So, you had no problems with Giuliani's ethics problems? It doesn't make you nervous that a guy who is willing to ignore his vows to his wife should be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a vow to uphold the law?

Shaggy_C 2008-03-06 11:30:21 AM
Donald_McRonald: In all fairness, you have seen his second wife, right?

Fair enough. His first wife was trophy wife too, well, until she got in a car accident. At that point she had a limp and was 'damaged goods', so even the fact that she waited for him faithfully while he was in 'Nam couldn't keep him committed. Says a lot about someone's character, ya know?

Shaggy_C: So, you had no problems with Giuliani's ethics problems? It doesn't make you nervous that a guy who is willing to ignore his vows to his wife should be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a vow to uphold the law?

My problems with Giuliani was that he was an authortarian asshat who fired a sucessful police chief because he was getting more press than Hizzoner, and that he was too stupid to move the command and control center for the country's most important city out of it's second most likely spot for a terrorist attack.

I know plenty of good people who have been divorced, and not being INSIDE THE MARRIAGE, I don't feel it's acceptable to judge someone based on that.

I refuse to judge people I've never met based on thier personal lives.
