We gave you the Flaming Lips. And we are very much on top of cow and weather technology. YOU ARE WELCOME

Wow, I seriously wasn't aware that half of those bands are still together. Cinderella? Black N' Blue? LA Guns? WARRANT?!?!?!

Was this like some weirdo activist judge's conditions for parole? I would seriously rather play with all the same guys under a different name than have people's first thought be, "Oh, THEM. They were so good 20 years ago, whatever happened to them?"

I realize that's just me, though... Good on you for having that level of commitment, I guess.

The people-watching (and photographing) possibilities at this event might almost make it worth the trip.

NightOwl2255 2008-03-05 02:08:50 PM
The original Rocklahoma (and this was 20 years ago) had Doobie Brothers, Van Halen, Sammy Hager (before the Van Halen gig) and Pat Benatar.

It rocked. Was held in the stadium where the Oklahoma Sooners play football. Maybe 50-60 thousand fans.

Christ there are that man of them left. Does this mean 20 years from now they are going to have a festival with Hawthorn Heights, Yellow Card, Fall Out Boy, Hinder, Avenge Sevenfold, ect, ect.... and they are going to expect people to go. farkin VH1 tricking people with nostalgia.

MmmBadEggs 2008-03-05 02:36:30 PM
Warrant? KIX? ENUFF Z'NUFF!?

Jesus Christ, this is shaping up to be the worst concert in recorded history.

Whatthefark 2008-03-05 02:41:50 PM
Night Ranger, Triumph, Cinderella and Armored Saint would fun to see. The rest...meh. I'd go just for the 80's rocker chicks who are now my age.

Well i do like beef and doplar radar just not the Flaming Lips all that much. So that is a +1. But this concert tips the scale to even. I am now neutral towards Oklahoma

/tell my wife i said hello.

Best Music Festival EVAR!

I missed it last year but plan on attending this year. Awesome lineup.

If anyone wonders why, I read a "financial" type story about the resurgance of 80's hair metal/arena rock bands touring again and being quite successful filling the arenas. It said that the people who were fans of this music back in the day are in their 30's and 40's now, have good jobs(thus have money), and are willing to spend it. One of the things they seem to like spending it on are seeing these favorite bands of their youth.

I thought it was a pretty sound point, especially since I fall into that category. This is the music I like, the bands are touring, and I have the money to see them; so I go.

Hair metal, thrash metal, classic metal, death metal, progressive metal, nu-metal, glam metal, blues metal, Satanic metal, Christian Metal; call it what you want but it is all heavy metal to me.

I like all metal. What I listen to depends on my mood and heavy metal has enough sub genres to pretty much cover any emotional state.

LOL that is the single worst "Festival" lineup I have ever seen.

ENUF Z'NUF? ROFL!

It's gonna be 15,000 Uncle Ricos trying to bang 8,000 groupies coming out of retirement. Add alcohol, meth, and stir.

creeto 2008-03-05 04:26:02 PM
Will someone be there to film the parking lot?

Night Ranger kicks arse man! Especially if you put their best stuff on a mixed tape.

redstarr01 2008-03-05 04:45:50 PM
Last year's Rocklahoma absolutely ruled. I had an awesome time.

Unless the TBA slots get filled with something really cool, I'm uninterested in this year's line-up and won't be attending this year.

moparedtn 2008-03-05 05:02:36 PM
Some good stuff there, some not so much.
Couldn't care less about Brett Michaels, for example.

However, one act did catch my eye:
George Lynch and his mob are back?
I might need to attend this after all.....

Raspil 2008-03-05 05:03:15 PM

Triumph still gigs?

Still has the magic power?

barneyfifesbullet 2008-03-05 05:07:59 PM
Cheesy sure, but let's see if any year's Coachella lineup can still sell tickets 20 years later.

Hell, even they went and booked Roger Waters to play this year.

ghoulie_mask 2008-03-05 05:20:34 PM
People, people, you are all missing the big picture: Getting all these bands and their fans in one convenient place.

Now all they need to do is book Great White and let nature take it's course.

Whatthefark 2008-03-05 05:36:18 PM
MrWhipee: They'll be at the concert in their mom jeans.

Mom jeans?! No self respecting 80's rocker MILF would be caught dead at a hair metal concert without their bleached and strategically torn Levi's.

OK guys, I'm going to show my age. The original Rocklahoma was called "the Oklahoma Jam" and was held on August 6, 1978 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. The bands were Alvin Lee, Derringer, Climax Blues Band, Black Oak Arkansas, Van Halen, Wet Willie, Head East, Missouri and amazingly, U.K. U.K. at that time was the version with Bruford, Holdsworth, Jobson, and Wetton. In later years it was held at Owen Field in Norman. I don't remember any mullets until Canadians started to infiltrate some of the local Nazarene Colleges in the mid-80's.Half of the state has now been assimilated. I'll still go to the concert though, just for the skank watching.

I'll be there trying to hook up with their 18 year old daughters who come with them.

THAT'S the problem. The mouthbreathers attending this year's soirée in Oklahoma....their musical tastes haven't changed in the last twenty years.

//They have bravely stood their ground, and the rest of the world has moved right on around them.

That's not a problem, that's how people roll.

Whatever you listen to when you're a kid will always be your favorite, no matter what you run into later.

I beg to differ. Nostalgia has it's place, but tastes evolve.

That looks like pure escapist fun to me. I'm gonna try to go. A lot of those bands reunited just for this because of how much fun last year was.
