Did you know that Jeff Healey had to audition for The Jeff Healey Band?

Swedgin [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 08:00:02 PM
His death makes Roadhouse emotionally resonate that much more.

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 08:03:11 PM
My Road House DVD has now doubled - nay, tripled - in value to $0.

Andrew Wiggin 2008-03-02 08:05:04 PM

41? that's a damned shame.. that's only a few years older than me.

Staffist [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 10:55:11 PM
Now I'm no math maven, but wasn't it more like a 38 year battle?

Not only an amazing musician and fine vocalist, but a passionate fan of music and living.

Well done, Mr. Healey. Rest in peace.

Staffist [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 11:10:48 PM
Oops... 40 year battle according to this article, but I thought that I'd read it differently in another.

FIFM.

Keep playing softly on heaven's porch, young friend....we'll all be over to listen shortly.

ViperCTW 2008-03-02 11:47:55 PM
That really sucks. I always tried to get people interested in his music. He was definitely underrated

Millions die every day in horrible, violent ways and you're all worried about 1 guy that lived to old age.

Horrible.

/just getting it out of the way - keep playing old timer

Wait, I'm hearing 41 year battle with cancer, yet the article says he was 41. Am I to understand that he was born with cancer and successfully fought it off for the entire 41 years of his life?

I first saw him at the Brunswick House years ago, just before he came out with his first album. It was great seeing this insane talent play for only about 30 or 40 people. Once his album came out, he became a star, but for all the time thereafter he still seemed to keep a level head about things.

Rest in peace, Jeff. Thanks for your talent and humility. You will be missed.

outback_rebel 2008-03-02 11:55:38 PM
Maybe they'll take those damn shoes off the market now

Cooper420 2008-03-02 11:55:39 PM
When he was like 2 he had his eyes removed due to cancer..... he literally has battled it his entire life.

I was just mentioning last week to some friends how I'd love to go see him perform at his restaraunt/bar he owns in Toronto.... guess that reality isn't happening now.

RIP.

I look at you all, see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps.
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps.
I don't know why nobody told you, how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you.
They bought and sold you.

I look at the world, and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps.
From every mistake we must surely be learning
And still my guitar gently weeps.
I don't know how you were diverted
You were perverted too.
I don't know how you were inverted
No one alerted you.

I look at you all, see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps.
Look at you all...
Still my guitar gently weeps.

Pretty much. Do you people even READ TFA?

"Diagnosed with retinal blastoma at age 1..."

Does that clear things up for ya, swifty?

CancerMan 2008-03-02 11:56:22 PM
i'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

Since when does 41 constitute old age? Except to maybe a 15-year-old.

We honor those most who make a unique contribution--especially when they have to overcome terrific odds to do so. Most of us are just drones who will have little impact on the world. Jeff Healey made a difference, both by his music, and his ability to inspire.

EvelFarknievel 2008-03-02 11:56:53 PM
Funny, I was just reading is website last week, after not thinking about him since like, 1988.

His blog said he had the flu but was feeling better. Also his wife was very sick or injured in some way.

Sad, sad, sad.

hobojo 2008-03-02 11:58:33 PM
There is a disease called Retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma. Retina Blasting. That sounds like a super power. Could he use it to stop Supermans heat vision? Or wait, maybe thats what Superman has. So how'd he die of cancer if he was Superman. Unless it was Kryptonite Cancer, which would suck. Or it'd suck if you were Superman, since it doesn't hurt normal people. Normal people like Jeff Healey, who had a disease called Retinoblastoma.

/Still feel bad for the guy
//Retinoblastoma

No, he was behind chicken wire (or something like it) in "Roadhouse." The Blues Brothers were behind chicken wire in a movie called "The Blues Brothers."

Meh. He's no Heath Ledger.

Is it obligatory -- perhaps codified into international law -- they every cancer obit MUST note that the victim "fought bravely"?

If you ever see that about me, please be advised that it will be a lie. I'll either be goofed on morphine or chugging bottles of JD, making frantic deals with the Lord, ratting out everyone I ever knew, promising to build a churches, minister to the poor, apologizing for anything I ever did and generally whining every single step of the way. When I finally wind up at the morgue, there will be mysterious abrasions on my ass. These will be where the grim reaper grabbed me to yank me out of the closet I was hiding in when my time came.

Goodbye spy man.

I believe that Angel Eyes may have been responsible for getting me to third base for the first time. circa 1988
