And if they go to prison, perhaps they'll get their fill of another traditional German sausage.

Ditto. I had blutwurst in a churrascaria in Sao Paulo once. Unforgettable. I've never had anything like it in the US.

It was so good, I wouldn't have ratted out these chefs.

This recipe is what kept the fine Nazi soldiers in good health during WW2. No mention of where the blood came from.

The two men, based at a fighter squadron base near Munich, were photographed siphoning off their blood to mix with onions, bacon, spices and breadcrumbs according to the recipe of a grandmother of one of them.

I kinda want to try this. How can you go wrong if there's bacon involved?

Rodeodoc 2008-03-02 10:39:39 PM
Dang, that's hardcore. But you know who else etc. etc. etc?

The Tony Danzas 2008-03-02 10:40:35 PM
I'm going to have to vote on "Dumbass". "Sick" would be if they had forced someone else to donate blood for the sausage.

I've had Blutwurst before (in Germany), but it didn't appeal to me hugely. My host family only ate it sparingly with breakfast--I much preferred the Zwiebelwurst (onion wurst). That stuff was good, but it definitely was greasy.

I blame the E.U. Their regulations have pretty much destroyed the blood food market, putting many people out of work because they can not afford to make the costly upgrades needed. It was only a matter of time until this started to happen.

The Grinch 2008-03-02 10:44:02 PM
TFA: The men have told investigators they both had an "interest in cookery".

Know who else had an interest in cookery?

Yay! Correct use of the plural noun!

Blood sausage was a staple of the breakfast menu they served us in public school in Britain. Along with head cheese and oxtail soup. It's a surprise everyone in the U.K. from my generation isn't twitching their last from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease by now.

This is not the first time sergeants have been out for blood.

yes, additional kudos to using the proper 'courts martial' and not the improper 'court martials'.

If we're going to maintain normalcy in our English Language, you have to do English good.

Exactly. Not even the German court system can beat the bacon defense.

We had cheese toast in public school. It was like, toast...with American cheese on it.

/At least we don't have clsjdaf;asd-Jakob disease...whatever that is.

FTFA: But their commanding officers scuppered their catering sideline when one of their fellow soldiers complained: "I have been asked to give blood for sausage-making and I want to know if this is against regulations."

In the Army the term for such a person is "buddy farker." Seriously. Don't fark your buddy by tattling on him.

ChopSueyKS: We had cheese toast in public school. It was like, toast...with American cheese on it

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, we asked for cheeseburgers, because we'd seen them on the telly. The lunch ladies obliged: a ground beef patty with a slice of cheddar cheese sandwiched inside, deep-fried and served on toast, because they didn't know what they were. On bad days, I burp and think I can still taste it.

"...when one of their fellow soldiers complained: "I have been asked to give blood for sausage-making and I want to know if this is against regulations."

What a pansy, he could have simply said, "NO" or "Piss off".

It's nice to know even Germany suffers from "John Kerry" soldiers. Yes, I know, it's a bit of a troll, but Kerry (and Fonda) can kiss my VFW belonging ass.

Back to blood sausages, how nasty and disgusting is that!?! Go for it young lads, if you wish to eat your (or your willing comrades) blood, enjoy (gag).

We have a similar family recipe. It's been passed down for generations. It was originally written by one of my ancestors who lived in Salem.

If you eat it, you can talk to reptiles.

Gross? Sure. But why a court martial? It sounds as though they were just seeking volunteers. It's not like they were raping people with syringes and cooking up some cannibal stew to surreptitiously feed to their comrades as some sick prank.
