The article says: "...they say his meals were not so big as to account for his enormous size."

Can anyone explain to me how what one eats can't account for their size? Calories eaten in food minus calories consumed in exercise equals weight gained or lost.

One doesn't simply gain weight without having put something into their mouth. Even if you've got a tumor or something, it requires nourishment to grow.

But Robert Earl was not slothful. He gladly would help on the family farm, feeding chickens, gathering eggs and performing other jobs that could be done at a slow pace.

If his pituitary gland was messed up, his metabolism could go into starvation mode with a normal food intake. I think.

Moral of the story: vaccinate your kids against measles. That's what killed him, getting measles in his 30s.

From the article:

"Still, by age 13 he had reached an astounding 546 pounds. At school, he sat on a special bench braced with two-by-fours and wire. But the walk became risky. One day, he stumbled and rolled into a ditch."

Fat man stuck in a ditch... Always a classic.

There are many reasons to eat: hunger, boredom, wanting to be the world's fattest man...

Those things don't allow your body to violate the energy mass laws of physics. 1000 pounds of lard still requires a higher than normal amount of food to produce.

I don't think Peter Cushing had Cushing's syndrome.

I used to work with a guy that had it, he weighed like 400 lbs and was short(so it would be about like someone my height weighing 500).

He was on a diet all the time is the only reason he didn't weight like double what he did.

Momo rocks...

I had my two boys (6 and 8 at the time) totally convinced Momo was hanging out at our house at night one summer. The younger one SWORE he saw it one night looking in the window. The made friends with it by leaving food. Momo brought cool rocks and toys he found in backyard.

Faking out little kids with giant sweet harmless lies...good times.

Easy on the subby, bro. While in MO, I was asked by some lady "Con-NAY-tikut.... ain't that where all them lighthouses are?"

I asked her if she's ever left the state, and she said she hasn't. She was in her 50's.

/this is the same state, that IIRC, has the museum with dinos and humans living together

That'd be the Ohio/Kentucky border. Though, Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus aside, your observations fully apply to Ohio. (For MO, I'd toss in STL.)

Regardless, I knew I was in trouble the second I discovered that I was 80 miles from the closest Starbucks.

I assume you're trolling but if not, RTFA. Poor guy had a medical condition that made him blow up. He did chores and walked to school as any farm kid would back in those days, but he kept on getting fatter anyway. So he made a buck off it before he died.
