Wow, appropriate usage of hero tag. +1

My opinion is that I'd like to see (the theater) hire people who can look after the children rather than keeping them out."

Uh...why should the theater do that? Isn't that the parent's jorb? Fark the kids and their farking sense of entitlement.

meekychuppet 2008-03-02 02:21:11 PM
If kids can get ID to drink I am not sure this will have any effect.

Setting the hero bar a little low, aren't we?

If the kids have a fake ID, they'll be out drinking, not at the movies.

FTA: "My opinion is that I'd like to see (the theater) hire people who can look after the children rather than keeping them out."

Whatever happened to everyone going to someone's house and hanging out there? It's a movie theater not a day care.

Why doesn't Murdock, the person who said this quote, get off of her duff and look for a way that her school can set up an after school program for bored kids. Let the cinema be what it is, a business.

hitchking 2008-03-02 02:29:22 PM
WTF? This is a stupid policy.

The movies is probably one of the better places that kids should be going to on Friday or Saturday nights. It'd be better if they were at bars?

Here's a thought; how about the parents actually spend that time with their children.

On another note, the farking capital of Nevada only has one theatre?

If they want to go to the theater, then they need to act civilized. If they can't, fark them.

fezziwig 2008-03-02 02:50:42 PM
I'd be happier if they'd just have and brutally enforce (tasers) a code of conduct for -all- movie goers.

Lighting up your cell phone to text message? That's a tasering.
Talking? That's a double tasering and a beating.

missmez: Here's a thought; how about the parents actually spend that time with their children.

Come on, we're talking about 16 and 17 year olds here. Some of them are high school seniors. They're going to stay home every Friday and Saturday night to play bridge with mom and dad?

Complicit [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 02:57:44 PM
When they ban cellphones and personal digital devices as well, let me know.

Yes we see you texting, you asshole. The light draws the eyes away from the screen.

Agreed. Theatres need to boot out teens acting like assholes.

You know that stereotype about black people talking during movies? Well, I've never seen that happen, but I've witnessed plenty of douchebag teens making noise in the theater.

Suppose you had seen plenty of black people talking during movies, you'd have them banned too?

LadyHawke [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 03:57:26 PM
If they did something like that around here, I would totally go to the movies more often. Last time I was there the theater was overrun by about 100 screaming unsupervised teeny-boppers waiting for Hannah Montana to start.

HaywoodJablonski [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 03:59:54 PM
I like the cut of their jib. I'd really like an adults-only bowling alley as well.

One question for my elders:

Was I that annoying at the movies when I was a teenager?

There's a 21+ bowling alley near DC. It's pretty much every night after 9pm. Unfortunately, it's also expensive. But it still rocks.

Fark no.

I probably used the wrong analogy to prove that point.

Besides, racial discrimination is illegal (as it should be), but age discrimination is perfectly legal.

Legal or not, it is, in this case, wrong for similar reasons. Bad experiences with a number of individuals do not justify punishment of the broad group to which those individuals belong.

I'm all for booting out any teenagers causing a disturbance, but to ban all minors is to use too blunt of an instrument. I don't see any reason to keep all the good kids out.

I'm sure there are plenty of good kids out there, I'm just saying that if a theater wants to ban kids, that's their choice. (There's a theater in Redmond that has a bar/drink service, and thus, they can't have kids in there. Unfortunately, their movie selection sucks, but I digress.)

The_Sponge: I'm just saying that if a theater wants to ban kids, that's their choice.

No one is suggesting this is illegal, but it's the wrong choice in my view. I believe you were saying it was the right choice- not simply that the choice was available to them.

Empanda 2008-03-02 04:53:44 PM
I'm all for more theaters doing this. It's not like they are saying the kids can't be there at all, only that an adult must be with them. A theater shouldn't be expected to act like a day care. It wasn't even just 16 and 17 year olds. It was also children who were much much younger.

Besides, I would like to occasionally go to a movie in the evening and be able to actually enjoy it. As it stands now I generally wind up going in the afternoon, when school is in session.

/Get off my lawn!

hitchking 2008-03-02 04:57:50 PM
First of all, which theatres are you people going to? I can't remember the last time I had teenagers ruin a night at the movies, and I go exclusively on weekend evenings.

And, for those of you complaining about children, what movies are you watching? I can't remember the last time I shared a movie theatre row with an out-and-out child, mostly because I'm not watching Cheaper by the Dozen 2 or whatever.

Bowling alley in Leesburg, VA has the same "under 18, must be accompanied by an adult" policy.

It should have been 15 and under. High school kids should be able to go to the movies on Friday and Saturday nights.

You don't like all the kids, go see a movie on a weeknight.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 05:42:05 PM
you know, on one hand, i don't think this is a good idea.

On the other hand, I've been to the movies on friday and saturday nights, and those little gits get on my nerves BIG TIME.

TheYeti [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 05:45:40 PM
If they raise it to 25 I might actually go back to a movie theater.

Software2 2008-03-02 06:21:54 PM
Subby, I've been having a tough time dealing with crabgrass. Could you give me some tips? I ask, because you must be an expert on lawncare.

Now if only they would turn away ghetto black people with cell phones.

dipdunk 2008-03-02 06:25:16 PM
I concur with Brettster808, move the age back to
/would go back to the movie theaters more often if they could keep out the troublemakers
//or play true classics on the big screen once a month

Don't you Farkers know the secret? You go to the movies during school nights. Kids are busy with school and the theaters are always empty, pure win.

/goes to see the new releases on Wednesdays
//also sneaks in taco bell
///movie food is too expensive :(

MIguy [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 06:26:32 PM
The little farktards should be banned from society until they turn 18.

fezziwig: ...Lighting up your cell phone to text message?...

That's something I simply fail to understand. Talking during the film, while obnoxious, can at least be relevant to the film. By contrast, what kind of clueless twit text-messages throughout a film when you've paid a $9 entrance fee and probably an additional 7-10 on concessions?

How many bars serve kids?

Half my post got accidentally cleaved. Anyway move the age back to >15 for some theaters and advertise which is which.

Cosmosis 2008-03-02 06:27:34 PM
Been a while since I went to a theater, but I actually found the 20+ crowd to be more obnoxious than the teens.(And there were a lot of teens there)

As much as I like a pile on, looks like other Farkers have already called you out on this statement. Now the theatres also need to do something about these two problems:
-People who talk on their cellphones/let cellphones on ring
-People who bring babies(?) to the movies. I think some lady bought her 5 year old and a baby to an X-Men movie.

Not that it matters much, when I have a nice Hi-Def tv and a NetFlix subscription. Most movies I've seen in the theatres lately have either been 'event' movies (like Cloverfield) or movies that have got a lot of positve reviews (There Will be Blood). I can wait for the rest to go to DVD.

I think this is a bad idea. I don't like this. But hey, if they don't want their money...someone else will.

Can't be in high school on a date at the movies with your girl without your parent. This blows. But hey, with all the other freedoms Americans are losing, what is another one going to hurt...

I wonder if they thought about the bottom line before goose-stepping over kids freedoms. I hope they go bankrupt with the new policies.

/43 years.

Simple:

Do it like the Soaps do. Send the kids to boarding school
until they are old enough to fark...and watch movies
