If Hillary doesn't smash Obama in Texas and Ohio, she's out of this race. She has to win every last primary from here to the convention with at least a 2:1 margin over Obama just to catch up to Obama. If she wins either state, she can sort of justify her staying in the race. If she loses either state, I think DNC insiders will force her to concede the race.

I'm pretty sure if she loses Texas and splits Ohio she will step down.

Ohio, we are counting on you.

But who is counting for Ohio?

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 01:03:38 PM
Remember, according to the Clinton campaign, anything less than four strong victories for Obama on Tuesday is a sign of "buyers remorse" and a victory for Clinton.

I don't think Hillary will step down voluntarily. Given her personality, I think someone from the party will have to FORCE her to concede.

Got to love it, right? If the upstart unknown who was trailing a rich, famous, well-connected political operative nationally by 20-30 points in November and has now eclipsed her and bested her in 11 straight match-ups doesn't continue to run the table it means he's a fake.

Thank you Ickes and Penn. This is brilliant stuff. Well worth the millions you're getting paid.

That might be enough to keep her in the race, but in all practical terms her campaign is dead in the water.

But I really don't want to have to put up with her any more. It's been 2 months of intensity...can it please be over?

If Hillary does even moderately well on Tuesday, I'd expect she'll claim victory and stay in the race.

She'll lose 2/4 at least, and will count Rhode Island as a "mandate" to stay in. Then you'll see the lawsuits to get the delegates from Florida and Michigan seated and to reduce the Texas caucus delegates.

Just watch.

The problem with that scenario is that Hillary is going to be forced out of the race by the DNC insiders. They won't risk Hillary splitting the party or her doing something at the convention that would alienate most of the rank and file. If it comes down to it, the senior DNC party officals will force her out of the race. They'll probably let her keep her senate seat as compensation, but they won't allow her to gut the party over a knock down drag out race to the nomination.

I hope you're right. But never NEVER underestimate the stupidity of Pennsylvanian voters. If they give her some ink in the "win" column next month, she is going to say that she won all the biggest states. And then she'll have just enough of a leg to stand on that she can stay upright.

Actually, there are only two major DNC strongholds in Pa - Philadelphia and Pittsburgh (both of which have a lot of black voters). Of the two, the philly machine is the one to watch, since they basically run the show. Early reports out of philly indicate that the ward leaders in both cities can't agree on whom to support. The governor ('fast eddie' Ed Rendell) has said that offically the DNC in the state will endorse Hillary, but nobody listens to Ed much anymore these days.

My guess is that Hillary will lose Pennsylvannia.

I do care. It's not good to see either party ignoring their rank and file and giving nominations to party insiders over a technicality. Obama has been winning the popular vote by quite a large margin. Odds are that he will continue to do so....why shouldn't he get the nomination?

Nah. Bill and Hillary have made a LOT of enemies over the years. All the people they've stepped on and abused in the DNC are now having thier revenge on the Clintonians. Wait and see - after Hillary loses Texas, she'll be told to concede.

Or else.

Yeah, I'm not sure anyone cares what Rendell thinks. Her lead is nose-diving in the polls. I don't know who Mayor Nutter will support in the end- he'd be foolish not to go w/ Obama though. He can't alienate his base this early in his tenure.

And I apologize for thinking you were cackling with glee over the bruising Democratic primary. From reading your posts over time I thought you would be either a) a registered Libertarian or b) and independent who swings Republican- if the candidate is appropriately mindful of civil liberties (i.e. not a evangelical wing-nut). In either case, it would be the exceptional individual who cares about what happens to the Democrats.

Nemo's Brother 2008-03-02 03:23:31 PM
I was hoping that after the 2004 election the Dems would destroy their party and start anew. It did not happen. Now I can only hope the Republicans do so. Its healthy to have one or the other remembering their roots and who they really work for. Right now, both sides have forgotten.

That's false advertising.

12349876 2008-03-02 03:40:22 PM
Obama is going to get more delegates in Texas regardless of the popular vote because of the caucuses and favoring delegates to senate districts with better turnout (ie. inner city black districts that the Republicans probably gerrymandered). Remember Obama got one more delegate than Hillary in Nevada despite losing by 6 points and got the same number as Hillary in New Hampshire.

If Obama is even within 10 points of Hillary in Ohio it will probably be a wash with each getting about the same amount of delegates Tuesday and Hillary has very little if any improvement from her current position.

12349876 2008-03-02 03:41:45 PM
The other thing to remember is that Obama did 5 to 10 points better than the polls said he would in Wisconsin, Maryland and Virginia.

The current polls there indicate otherwise. I am hoping that Obama pulls off a strong win (3-5 points) in Texas - is close or winning in Iowa - and then turns his attention full blast on Pennsylvania. That is the only way she will drop out.

Obama's father was from Kenya. That makes him half black. Enough of that back to the Hillary issue:

Hillary on the other hand doesn't have a drop of hispanic or latina blood in her. It's embarrassing. Bet she can't pronounce tortilla correctly.

Personally at least, I wouldn't call him African. But, black is an acceptable moniker. He's not pink or white. Hillary on the other hand is from no where near Latin America.

Assuming you are asking in seriousness, you must have missed all of the "Bill Clinton is the first black president", "Barack Obama would be the first female president" PoMo bullshiat that's been going around in the media.

The first one got wings thanks to Toni Morrison, which is just pathetic for her.

Please, please, please, if there is a God, please let Hillary win on March 4th. I am so looking forward to the democratic party imploding due to a brokered convention.

If there were any chance that that batshiat crazy turd Huckabee could come back I would be asking for that as well since the only thing better than the democratic party imploding would be for both the democratic and republican parties imploding, but I will be happy with just the one.

No. Which is why the margin in WI was much larger than expected...
