New Orleans, of course.

That place needs another flood.

nobozo 2008-03-02 12:21:06 PM
In 2005, according to the records, the Citizen Service Fund spent only $114, or 1 percent of its Christmas budget, on toys. The fund did not spend any money on toys in 2006

Only one solution ...

"With an annual salary of more than $96,000, Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price would hardly seem to require help from a charity at Christmas."

SRSLY, ya think? This man needs to be struck by lightning while he's out on the golf course..

Isn't Toys for Tots run by the Marines?

Ya, I wouldn't want to be THAT mayor.

This is probably the beginning of stories you will see like this.

Don't you people realize the risks police take in their daily lives at work? It's only fair to reward them any way they see fit.

What, corrupt cops and politicians in Louisiana? Christ, it's news when you find an honest cop or public official down there.

Nope, still not news.

Wow...that's just..wow.

Taking funds away from needy children to give yourself gifts.

I'm at a loss of words.

Although someone already said it, let me repeat: Mandeville is not New Orleans.

Also, "needs another flood"? You douchebag.

Toss them into the sun.

kmwheel 2008-03-02 02:26:48 PM
Okay, think about this before you put unwrapped toys in an OPEN, unattended barrel to try to make some child's Christmas. I have always known that people took "the good stuff" out of those barrels, whether it be the employees of the business on which the barrel is situated, or by the volunteers for the organization itself. There are many organizations that will let you adopt a family and pick out presents specifically for them. You bring it back wrapped. I hope that most of those are on the level, but seriously, practice due diligence.

These people just took it to the next step and appropriated the cash.

Pfft. No.

SphericalTime [TotalFark] 2008-03-02 02:44:46 PM
That is disgusting. Seriously disgusting.

The police chief used the fund to buy presents for his mother in law? And his bosses, and all sorts of employees?

1% of the budget goes to toys, and none of it goes to the emergency services that it is supposed to pay for?

Jesusquatch 2008-03-02 02:45:05 PM
Won't someone please think of the children's mayor?

I was beating 7of7 to his punchline because everyone knows the Police never do any wrong.

To top it off, the same mayor was in trouble last month. One of his friends had been drinking at a bar, got into a fight with a woman and attacked her. Mayor Price made some phone calls and the guy didn't even go to jail. The woman? If I recall correctly, she almost died from her injuries.

Ahh the 22nd judicial district: Where the men are men and the sheep run fast!
Expect to be seeing a lot of corruption arrests from this area in the next few years.

The real Toys for Tots is run by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. These LA yokels have no connection other than a bunch of pissed off Marines.

Walmart gift cards? Stay classy Mandeville!

gcruse 2008-03-02 03:58:17 PM
"If this blows up, I'll pay that money back," Price said he told Stiebing regarding the gift cards.

This isn't Toys for Tots. The locals informally call this fund "toys for tots," even though it isn't the stated goal of the fund. It IS a charity, however, and if people thought it was buying the mayor Walmart gift cards, they certainly wouldn't donate.

Well, all the same, I hope a squad of Marines in the general area decides to plant a flagpole in this mayor's ass. "Say Suribachi!! Say it louder!! I can't HEEEAAAAARRR you!!"

/thinks the major needs an attitude adjustment
//or maybe Zorak will do it

Mandeville

Le Devil Man

That is where my ex lives and pretty much sums up the place.

I hope in prison he gets toys for twats.

Mandeville is a bedroom community of New Orleans. It's where people from the New Orleans area went in droves in the white flight from New Orleans. It's also common to find snobby attitudes and a holier-than-thou attitudes only New Orleans people can have just by moving north 25 miles. If Katrina was just a hair to the west, Mandeville would have gotten dunked till it stunk too. They has downed pine trees mostly.

Mandeville residents have to cross the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway to earn a living. Traffic congestion chokes their commute twice a day.

Schadenfreude, it fog season...they have the thickest sea fog drive over water for 25 miles at 15 to 25 mph in zero visibility.

I'm almost MORE surprised that the police HAVE to buy the mayor a damn gift, if it was JUST The chief I could get it, since they usually work closely together.

This is just utter graft "I had NO idea", yea RIGHT BullShiate!
