FAIL!!!

From TFA:

"Sailema became involved because he was dating the father's 21-year-old sister, police said. Investigators believe she persuaded the cab driver to help her family abandon the baby."

And I can't get greenlit for a story about a guy who loves to fark cars...geez.

God I hate story problems in math.

I can't condemn the cabbie for this. It's not the right way to abandon an infant and he filed false reports, but the baby was left in safe hands and that's the most important.

Flashman73 2008-03-02 01:48:13 PM
So... if I'm reading this right... New York has 14 year old cab drivers who impregnate their 44-year old daughters?

Actually, it is the right way. We have a no-questions-asked policy regarding whomever drops a baby off at a hospital as an abandoned child.

Or...it would have been the right way, had he not made up some wild story...

I have to agree here. He could have left the baby in a dumpster or wrapped in a plastic bag or waited till it was 40 below like the other abandoned baby cases we hear about.

But why is the cabbie also being charged criminal facilitation? I thought you could abandon babies at fire stations or hosptials...

The safe haven law in NY only applies to babies up to few days old.

So if it is any older they should just leave it in a dumpster to die?

/that is a stupid law.

Agreed, but if there wasn't some limit, my parents would hae tried it with me when I turned 12.

I actually think that should be allowed, people who would in reality give away their kids are generally not fit parents.

47 is the new 42 2008-03-02 02:43:23 PM
This is my understanding, but I have no idea if it is correct.

1. 27-year-old male impregnated a 14-year-old girl. (Statutory Rape)
2. 27-year-old father gave his daughter to the cabbie.
3. Cabbie was dating the 27-year-old father's 21-year-old sister.
4. Cabbie dropped off baby at a firehouse and made up a false story.
5. Cabbie gets caught in lie and is arrested. (Fraud?)
6. The baby has ended up in foster care.
7. The 14-year-old will likely not face charges because she is only 14.

There are more details, but I don't know where to fit them in.

New York: The new Florida.
