I continue to be amazed at the amount of self-Darwinisn going on here in Ontario each winter when it comes to snowmobiles.

Too many (or the right amount in Darwin's eyes?) go out on questionable lake ice, take short cuts over rivers that rarely fully freeze over, or go out alone and think nothing will happen to them.

Not all of Sask is flat. Its a fairly diverse province --- but, yes, a lot of flat land.

Yup. Between that and the people going out on Rice Lake (seems like it's usually East Asians - why's that?) the herd is somewhat thinner every year.

Having said that, I was a silly redneck growing up in Northern Ontario doing a lot of questionable things, and either Darwin never got me or I did something right.

An excellent effort by the submitter, but he was confused. Newfoundland is the West Virginia of Canada, not Sasaskawan. An example of this...

+1 subby

For those Yanks who haven't made it up to the land of hockey and igloos, here's how some other provinces can be compared to places n the States:

B.C - California, many people are snobs who don't want to leave
Alberta - Texas, have lots of oil and its govt acts like its own independent nation
Manitoba/Northern Ontartio - Nebraska, really flat, mostly agriculture
Southern Ontario (Toronto) - Boston/NYC/Boston, we have all the people, businesses, media, and money...why does everyone else in the country hate us?
Quebec - France
Maritimes - The South
Territories - Alaska

/Yankee working in Canada for 1.5 years
//not impressed with their health care system

Bet he didn't see that coming.

You must have never been there. B.C. gets more snow than anywhere else in Canada.

http://www.skifernie.com/conditions/snow-report.aspx

Yes, it says year to date 353 inches (over 29 feet) of snow. And there are places that get more than that.

Not all of Sask is flat. Its a fairly diverse province --- but, yes, a lot of flat land.

With the exception of Cypress Hills which was missed by the glaciers of the last ice age, its pretty much all flat. Even the Great Northern Forest is pretty much flat. You can see the Flin Flon smoke stack for 60 miles. When I was a kid, we used to climb the Prairie Queen, the biggest dragline in the world when she was built but now maybe 20th, and we could see 200 km. I hate that frickin place, all of it.

I continue to be amazed at the amount of self-Darwinisn going on here in Ontario each winter

Darwin must have invented the machine himself. College friend's sister put two of them to the bottom of the lake behind their house before she turned 18.

Friend who's a commercial pilot was mystified why there was no snow on a spot on McHenry County's Chain of Lakes, despite the snowstorm. Ploosh goes the snowmobile.

Same lake: someone puts their snowmobile to the bottom of the lake. Walks up to my boss's house and with nobody home, they break in to call emergency services. Later, they refuse to pay the cost of the broken window and door. Classy.

No links to video of Corner Gas yet?

Just found that on YouTube yesterday.

I've lived in the states since 2001, so I haven't seen much of the show yet...but I can attest that Saskatchewan really does look and feel like the video clip.

Also - the Qu'Appelle Valley - NOT FLAT. Not even a little bit.

You can't say you hate ALL of the province when you clearly haven't seen ALL of the province.

I've been living in SK since 2001.

I like it.

And, one less dummy to deal with according to the article.

Of course, 400km north of PA is like a different country anyway, never mind a different province.

Ya buddy, and Toronto doesn't smell like piss? I've been to Newfoundland (wife's from there), and Saskatchewan, i'd rather live in either of those places than Toronto, unless I was looking to get shot or mugged.

GavinTheAlmighty 2008-03-02 11:33:22 AM
I like the attempt at humour, but snowmobiles can be and usually are more difficult to control than cars. You usually don't have to worry about what's beneath you in a car.

Kryler 2008-03-02 11:37:55 AM
Fewer people would die on snowmobiles if they used genuine Saskatchewan seal skin bindings. Its a shame really.
