Why is this scary? She's got years to go before...

Cue the pic of her opening her wide mouth.

because political dynasties are bad. they are almost certainly based on a projection of the qualities of their predecessor rather than their own merits, and can lead to disastrous results when those projections prove false.

While I suppose there is some merit to that idea, I guess I could point out that both of the Roosevelts were rather popular presidents that did pretty well.

Clinton attended Stanford University. She had declared a major in chemistry with an interest in medicine before switching to history after two years.[3] In 2001, she graduated with distinction from Stanford; her undergraduate thesis topic was her father's mediation of the 1998 Belfast Agreement in Northern Ireland. She went on to earn a Master's degree at University College, Oxford, in international relations

It sounds like she's doing alright for herself, though. I'd say let's see how she coes up through the ranks, though, if she desires to do so, before calling it "Scary".

fezziwig 2008-03-01 06:08:13 PM
Yep. She's going to come out as a neo-conservative by the time she's 30. And after a long stint as a commentator for Fox News she'll run as a Republican in 2020.

Yet what if Hillary fails? Will that be the end of the Clinton family's remarkable presidential run?

One member of the family is a "remarkable presidential run?"

The Adams, Roosevelt and Bush families are not impressed.

Chelsea Clinton will be the same age Ted Kennedy was when his brother was elected President & Joe Kennedy had a “place holder” put in JFK’s senate seat until Teddy was old enough to take the seat himself. The Clintons plan the same sort of thing except Bill Clinton will be that place holder... So get ready for President Hillary, Senator Bill Clinton, Then in three years Senator Chelsea. Then in 2016 Chelsea will run for President.

The fact that the Kennedys are considered some kind of political dynasty is un-American to say the very least. fark the Kennedys, fark the Bushes and fark the Clintons.

Our ancestors fought a revolution for a reason. Yeah, for all those reasons too but also because they wanted a country led by people who had qualifications beyond their last name.

Either that or they will change the laws that prevent a 3rd term for Bill.

While I am certainly not a Hillary supporter, I just can't work up any ire against Chelsea. She seems to be a bright, genuine young woman. She might not even want a career in politics. I certainly wouldn't if I thought every screwy thing my parents did would be rehashed in the media over and over every time my name was mentioned.

"Hey, Hillary, how do you like campaigning?" shouted one excited supporter, muddling the daughter with her mother. The younger Clinton paused, and gave a quiet smile. "I'm Chelsea," she said, and everyone giggled.

Damn, Hillary's got the senile over-60 vote sewn up.

Democrats will never unanimously support that amendment because they know that GWBush can get elected. Republicans will never support that amendment at all because they know that WJClinton can get elected.

Ergo, not likely.

Things I don't understand:

1. Why, at this stage, anyone would be afraid of a Chelsea Clinton White House.

2. Why people keep harping on about how hot she is. She looks pretty much like I would have imagined she would at this age.

That all said, she seems to have done a pretty good job keeping it together through the whole 'Dad being president and a public adulterer' thing. Good for her.

Krymore: Can we please make a constitutional ammendment preventing anyone from the Bush or Clinton family from running for public office? Please?

I don't get it. It's not like (despite Hillary's apparent confusion on the matter) they automatically get the office. I mean people still have to vote for them and everything.

Why not another Bush or Clinton? I have a hard time imagining there could be another Bush as disastrous as George W. And I have the liberty of not voting for them when they actually run.

I will say that for this election I think it is wise to vote in such a way to prevent the continuation of the B/C/B alternating presidencies. And that is simply because Hillary is not a Clinton who could govern past her name.

Skleenar: 1. Why, at this stage, anyone would be afraid of a Chelsea Clinton White House.

I think the question should be, why a Chelsea Clinton White House would even be a topic of discussion? Anymore than a Jenna Bush White House or a -whatever Kennedy is not currently under indictment- White House. What is this proclivity towards electing relatives of politicians?

WE FOUGHT A FARKING WAR OVER THAT shiat.

SingerWang And if I may say so again, she's hot... from the right angle, with the right lighting, and decent hairstyling and makeup, on a good day, with the stars aligned.

FTFY.

There are plenty of dog-ugly two-paper-bags-over-the-head-please photos of Chelsea floating around. She may have been an awkward-looking kid when her dad was in office, but compared to then, all I can say is she hasn't aged well.

People are stupid. Despite your apparent voting intelligence, enough people could be tricked into voting for a dictatorship that it's a real possibility. They would ammend the Constitution and the House/Senate would agree to do it with enough voter pressure (also assuming that they get guaranteed a comfy spot in the new regime). The US wanted to make George Washington the King of America until he had the foresight to limit his number of terms as president.

You could also take into account that they were fifth cousins who barely knew each other until FDR married Teddy's niece, and who served as president 22 years apart in opposing parties, but I'm sure there's no reason to mire yourself with such petty details.

Good point. I wouldn't even be able to identify 5th cousins as such. Heck, I haven't even met 99.9% of my 2nd cousins. As far as I know, I very well could have had a 5th cousin who's been president. That doesn't exactly fall under what I'd consider dynastic politics.

I was hoping this would be the next President Clinton:
