That's nothing, this Houston cop made $120,000 in overtime:

Yo know what's going to happen? Every person that complains is going to be on that cop's sh*t list. They're going to get pulled over for everything now.

Everyone who breaks the law insists they didn't. That's not exactly damning evidence of wrongdoing.

Always fight traffic tickets. Always. Always. Always.

BizarreRecords: That's nothing, this Houston cop made $120,000 in overtime:

That's for working on a task force, not appearing in court.

Most HPD officers don't get overtime - or even pay - for appearing in traffic court. It's just considered one of their job responsibilities.

A friend of my brother's quit the force over that.

Of course, this could have changed in the last five years ;)

Generation_D [TotalFark] 2008-03-01 04:10:04 PM
I wonder why a cop would quit over not being paid for showing up at traffic court. Was it in addition to his regular 40 hours a week? or just a part of it?

In addition to, and with no pay. And often at some pretty weird hours. She put up with that and some other issues for three years, then turned in her badge.

I bet they did stop, only once their car is four to six feet after the sign. It is the most dangerous parts of being a runner in a town. I almost get hit every time I go for a run, and that is while paying very close attention. People just don't stop where they are required to.
I would be happy if I could get a cop to start writing tickets for this type of thing in my neighborhood, it is more useful than speeding tickets in areas where it is safe to speed.

And the possiblity that said police officer might be abusing the court system for extra pay never even crossed your mind, right? All those people MUST be guilty?

Yes because we know that police never abuse their power. All the stories about police abuse must be written by some schmuck who had it in for them, right?

CravenMorehead 2008-03-01 05:57:28 PM
1. Write lots of tickets
2. Get overtime for court appearances
3. Profit!!!

He didn't say that at all; he just logically pointed out that someone saying, "I didn't do it" is not exactly strong proof that the cop is wrong. It's not like most people are good drivers.

Gerald Springfield/Ticketed Driver: "$21,000. That's quite a bit of money. That's quite a bit of money."

Har! What a shiatty article, but I like how it's biased towards reality. Not really news, more like exposure of the scam police.

This is the norm for close in suburbs of Detroit, although this guy is seems to be far above average. Redford, Livonia, etc are also fake ticket havens. Municipal fund raising activity, especially during economic hard times.

psychohaulic 2008-03-01 06:01:50 PM
In that area, he could easily make way more by pulling over all the reckless asshole drivers. I swear drivers in the Detroit area are either retarded or are unlicensed.

It's funny the extent the badge makes one person so much more credible than anyone. I've been to court for tickets and have never seen every defendant say the cop was pretty much a farking liar. This douche should have been fired long ago, considering he already earned a reputation for writing bogus tickets. I hope he ends up working security at a shopping mall the rest of his life.

onpoint 2008-03-01 06:07:51 PM
Some of my best friends are LEO. If you have time to write 2,400 tickets a year, you're not a cop, you're a gangster.

Cops are no longer cops.

Once, the police were expected to be a presence to help lower the crime rate, arrest wrong-doers, enforce laws, and solve crimes.

Now, the majority of 'em are just revenue enhancers.

/They've always been under-educated bullies, but now they pay themselves by issuing lotsa tickets.

Yeah, I remember that time, when you were there, and you saw that happen. But my favorite time was when you were on Fark and just made sh*t up.
