A DVD showing a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agent engaged in behavior Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith called "disturbing" shows the agent identifying himself by name, firing weapons, and encouraging at least one other person to swig alcohol at a party.

And we're surprised by this because....?

Look, we all know that DEA agents are knuckle dragging neanderthals. Hell, you have to forcably devolve into a lower lifeform if you want to get a job in that agency. so having video evidence of asinine behavior by a DEA agent isn't exactly a surprise to the citizens of this country.

Washington County has struggled with high rates of substance use/abuse for years and this is just going to make their job harder. As if there aren't enough people who don't take police seriously now, wait until they try to convince average redneck marijuana cultivator/distributor that what he or she is doing is a crime, but it's ok for DEA agents to abuse substances, encourage others to do so, drive, and videotape it.

I'm from Hancock County, and I have yet to see any of the growers/dealers I know have any problem with the police.
As far as I can tell, the law here doesn't really care too much about drug enforcement.
/has no real problem with that

I think it's the "firing weapons" while consuming alcohol part they may have had a problem with.

This. Made me RTFA and I agree. Also, i think it was the excessive drinking that was also at issue...you know, where people were vomitting.

Hello!? DEA? They're only pissy 'cause it showed up on film. Had this guy been acting like a prick off camera then odds are nobody would have had a problem with him.

and no one wol dhave nown about it. A DEA officer discharging his weaopon while drunk at a party is a pretty good reason for some superiors to be pised off. On camera where they and whoever else knows about it is evena better reason

He's drinking on camera, identifying himself as an officer, brandishing his badge, discharging his weapon, and operating a vehicle while drinking. Most police officers would be disciplined if not fired for doing the same.

What, you mean some cops are dumbass, gun-crazy, drunken, jock-type thugs? Tell me more, Ric Romero!

Given how some of our local police operate, I think that sort of behavior is how they get promoted, not fired!

What the hell is wrong with these people who cannot stand the idea that someone, somewhere, isn't sober? If you don't want to be drunk, or stoned, or whatever, fine with me. Why isn't it fine with you if I do, even when I'm being totally responsible about it?

i have to agree. he's free to act like an idiot off or on camera on his own time, but once you mention your employer on camera ("This is a public safety announcement from Maine Drug Enforcement"), it becomes their problem. i often act like an ass when posting on fark, but i don't mention any of my clients or business associates and issue statements on their behalf. i see unemployment in his future.

/i'm friggin psychic!

Jealousy. It's just like Republicans and their sodomy laws.

Agreed. That, and the whole "operating a motor vehicle while drunk" bit, which is irresponsible at any speed.

I wouldn't care if one of my co-workers was starring in donkey-porn films in their free time, but if you're flashing your corporate ID while doing it, that makes it the employer's business.

Reminds me of an episode of some cop show I saw, where the cops bust a drug dealer, and the show ends with the cops sitting in a bar after work getting drunk and celebrating.
