Why are the waters always "shark infested"? Would the sharks describe the waters as "human polluted"?

Hero? Come on, it's not as though he bought a flag-sticker and went shopping for groceries, for over 30 minutes, or anything truly heroic like that.

Hooper: Huh huh, I can't imagine why.

If the waters are 'shark infested', isn't only fair that the hotel room in Vegas is 'rich with ricin'?

I guess they would, given that they tend to spit us out after the first bite. Turns out we taste nothing like seal, which is nice to know, I s'pose. Unfortunately, a shark developed internet is a couplea millennia away, so they won't be posting their opinions on Fark anytime soon.

FTA:Speaking to Sky News, he said: "I have determination like no other person. I wasn't going to die out there mate, no way."

Not to belittle his experience hanging on to a cooler to survive, but I think we can say that the guy who swam the whole way to get help had at least as much determination, no?

/Best use of hero tag I've seen in awhile.

JeffreyScott 2008-03-01 02:13:10 PM
FTA: "I've got determination like no other person," Mr Jarrett, who could barely speak from exhaustion, said. "I wasn't going to die out there, no way."

He has determination like no other person, EXCEPT Michael Williams, who is the person who swam to shore while he (Jarrett) was clinging to debris like a little girl. Seriously, Jarrett would have been dead if it wasn't for Williams amazing swim to shore to get help, and yet Jarrett didn't thank him in the interview.

I wonder why.

There's an epiphany for ya. Like clinging to the toilet bowl, saying "I'll never drink Southern Comfort again"

Same thing I was thinking. He's going on about how he's the baddest hardass ever to grace the planet, but it was the other guy who swam to shore while he hung on and hoped that the other dude could make it. Still not something I want to go through, but you would think he'd give the other guy some props.

1. Dear noodlenuts: They didn't interview the hanging-on-to-cooler guy. The interview was with a bystander who saw cooler-man wheeled into the hospital.

2. What in the Sam Hill makes you think the media shows us all of interviews anyway?

Ah. So an on-camera, lengthy interview was shown, and I'm supposed to know you were referring to the two sentences quoted within the article? Okay.

Still, what makes you think this guy DIDN'T thank his rescuer? Because the all-encompassing media didn't quote it?

Run down to Wal-Mart and purchase a grip.

They didn't have life jackets or any other good floatation aids? That's really dumb. Never go out in the ocean without the means to float without effort (at a minimum).

I've been out in those waters in a ocean kayak, shark infested is putting it mildly. I've seen them out there and though they are beautiful creates they are there big time!

Big Silky, Bronze Whalers, and of course White Pointers (Great Whites) all hang out near Byron Bay (fun town though) that dude is amazingly lucky.

I'm going to go with the guy who is missing just didn't have the desire to live and gave up. I can't believe his fishing partner off'd him like what some people might think.

But to swim 12 hours, unfarkingbelievalbe!! Somebody owes him some VB and a whole big steak!

Good on you sir!!

This so called "hero" was a moron. Had he been smart enough he wouldn't have been the first fool to step into the water. Had he forced his other fishing mates into the water at least he'd have a better chance of survival since they'd be good shark decoys, but I guess he wasn't creative enough for that? Only a Darwin candidate would not use his resources.

Plus, had he calmed the fark down and not panicked like a little woman by jumping into the water for 12 hrs, he at least would have had my respect even if he starved on the overturned vessel debris. Instead, he's alive but looks like a damn fool for trying to do like in the movies.

Naive fools like him don't last long. You know what they say? A fool and his money are soon parted. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame douche.
