Speaking before his withdrawal, the third-in-line to the throne said: "I don't want to sit around Windsor, because I generally don't like England that much and it's nice to be away from all the press and the papers."

When it's state money funding everything in his life, the public gets a little bit of a say.

Hey, he's just a kid! The press coverage is too much pressure.

Going to war, on the other hand, is perfectly ok.

I think it has more to do with he knows his life is a farking lie, everyone knows that Prince Charles is not his father & he knows everyone knows yet the Winsor's keep the lie going not to mention the fact that they also murdered his mother.

Well, if you where this "KID" that perceives the "Press and papers (paparazzi)" Killing your mom, wouldn't you also want to be away from them?

He put on the uniform and he went out on the line with his men. You couldn't get my ass out into the province he was posted to with a gun at my back. He gets to have any damn opinion he likes.

They don't have Hollywood in the UK, so they have to settle for the Royal Family.

Just like Paris Hilton, it's what happens when people are born into celebrity and immense wealth and privilege. He gets bored, wants to get away from the cameras, the ass-kissing, the attention and just be a normal guy.

He didn't have to go to war..and he did. So, kudos to him.

It would have been the coolest thing in the world had Harry been the one to find bin Laden.

No he said two seperate things. 1. he doesn't like england that much and, 2. it's nice to get away from the press and papers.

Spanky_McFarksalot 2008-03-01 07:58:01 AM

I really don't get the apparent hatred for the British royals I've seen in these threads. I mean yes the kid was born to privilege and wealth, but so what? How is that any different from someone born into one of the rich old families in the US? At least this one took a stab at doing his duty. Even if it were to turn out he was coddled and/or well protected, at least he made some sort of effort. Too often the children of our privileged and wealthy don't even bother with a token contribution.

Jacques Lestrap 2008-03-01 08:21:06 AM
and how to spell separate

If avoiding the incessant press IN IRAQ is "nice to be away" then it's fair to say that his view of england is probably very different than most.

Harry's father is Prince Philip's son but all the other male siblings of Charles are from different men. I guess when Philip decided to diddle Princess Alexandra, Liz was cheesed off.

Jim_Callahan 2008-03-01 08:29:46 AM
Not really my specific interest as history goes, but I seem to recall that the guy they called in to replace the dudes they killed in the British civil war never even bothered to learn English. And, really, he did as well as most kings, so I don't think 'not liking england' would necessarily make you bad at kinging. Not like they do much.

if he had a taste for rum, sodomy and the lash like his uncle andrew i'd have an ounce of respect for him.
especially since the falkland war was more just than the current incursion in afghanistan.

god's sake....he probably didn't even whip his men into combat!

To be fair, what's good about England these days?

No, seriously. Yes, it has tremendous historic value and is littered with both old and ruined castles, but... For people living in the now, what's good about it?

/ I hear the club scene is pretty good
// Maybe not so good if you're a prince

Jacques Lestrap 2008-03-01 09:01:54 AM
1/ The guy's mother was killed in a tragic accident that is still publicly rehashed everyday everwhere
2/ The are rumours his father may be someone else
3/ Whenever he drinks, farts, looks the wrong way, he's on the front page.
4/ His step mother is Mr Ed
5/ I'd hate England too

It was the Hanovers (The Georges) who were brought over from Germany to be Kings, the first few Detested England and never bothered to learn the language. George III was the first one to like England.

And in his defense he has had the press hounding him since day 1 and they continue to wank off over his mothers corpse.. and good on him for wanting to do his part. His Uncle and Grandfather should be proud.

It's pretty clear that he meant he doesn't enjoy being in England, trapped by the media.

I respect Prince Harry more than 70% of our (US) elected leaders at this point.

The kid could have stuck with being a useless ornament, and went to fight on the front lines instead. If he doesn't like it in England, send him here!

/I wouldn't blame him for finding and throat-punching Matt Drudge, either.

the difference with the "royals" is that unlike american trust fund babies the british people are taught that they are better than everyone else and should be treated as such. you do not have to call paris hilton "her royal highness" or any of that other crap.

also he dressed up like a nazi for a party, seriously, of all the places in the world where you can not dress like a nazi as a joke england is right up there behind israel.

Why does this family still have their limbs attached?
Shouldn't they be drawn and quartered?

The area he was in was probably sweeped by several units of special forces and he was just playing in the sand for photo shoots and he also had his security detail with him aswell.
