subby, it seems more likely that there'd be a lot of farkers going "fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap" as she sings, which quite frankly is way too fast a tempo for most Tom Waits songs.

I'll just go ahead and get it in early:

Tom Waits covers? Isn't that what "The Wire" is for?

Well I wouldn't go oooh or ahhh or fap at all. Odd as that may seem to subby.

Cool. Didn't know she was a Tom Waits fan. Her chest seems just a little bit bigger now, to me.

Tom Waits' covers? Oh, this is not going to end well. I have only heard of one good Tom Waits cover and that's The Ramones doing "I don't wanna grow up." And that worked because the lyrics fit the band perfectly.

I can't see her fitting any of his songs. Well, maybe "Strange Weather". No, wait, not even that. Still, I'll give it a chance when it comes out. I am way too curious to pass it up.

Tom Waits is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. I'm willing to wait until I hear the album to judge but there is a part of me that's offended by this. I can appreciate she's a fan but does she have to release an album?

But how will it compare to Milla Jovovich's album (possibly NSFW album art)?

/Actually bought it on tape back in the day
//Haven't listened to it in over a decade, so I'm not even sure if I'd like it now.

I'd plant it in her Potter's Field.
I'd make her play my rusty Swordfish Trombone.
I'd give her a Burma Shave.

Apparently, Scarlett wants Change. (You've seen this a billion times already.) Seems like that bizarre, random Dan Aykroyd, "We Are the World" moment might be motivated by a desire to break into the music biz.

As if "I'm already famous, let me sing" *COUGH*Paris Hilton*COUGH* hasn't happened already.

Allmuisic gave her 4 stars... but I suspect you'd be better checking out The Divine Comedy, the band. Terribly underrated and not widely known, but incredible.

Of course she does. Great bod, but he face makes her look like she has a case of Down's and when she opens here mouth on matters of the political, it just confirms it.

The problem with Scarlett Johansson is that she can't market for CRAP. Her body is basically her main asset. Her voice isn't that great and her acting talent is barely there although occasionally she can pull it off by a hair. All of that would be fine. It seems to be getting Jessica Alba pretty far. But the main difference between Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba is that Jessica Alba has got the sense to appear in movies that guys might watch and Scarlett hasn't got two brain cells to rub together or by now she'd have figured out that chick flicks aren't exactly working to her main audience.

Okay, rant over.

Lost in Translation? Ghost World? The Man Who Wasn't There? I know they can't all be winners, but she's done some decent films, especially the Coen brother's film.

Feeding the troll but she got nominated for an Oscar for Girl With a Pearl Earring.

It seems like nobody noticed her tits before she got known for her acting talent, and now that's all Ithey notice.

I'm trying to decide if Bowie's being sincerely modest or he's just trying to distance himself a bit from this project...

I came in here to say pretty much the same thing. For all I know her covers will be awesome, but I wouldn't bet on it. Besides, much of what Waits work is the delivery. Take that away and you're left with Rod Stewart.

Zombie Eater 2008-03-02 01:25:21 AM
If she's not doing "The Earth Died Screaming" or "Hoist That Rag", she can go fark herself. And yes, I'll be right there with the video camera.

/also finds this bullshiat offensive.
//shouldn't she leave the shiatty covers to Joss Stone?

He also did "The Ballad Of Frankie And Johnny" that was pretty good.

Nice that she's a Tom Waits fan and all, but I just can't see this ending well. Let Tom do his own songs.

Veggies 2008-03-02 11:14:27 AM
I'm still reserving judgement till I hear it. If she takes a very off-beat direction with the musical accompaniment it could be good. I don't have any hopes, though.

Scarlett Johansson is also ridiculously hawt, so I don't really care. And not fake hot, either.

Glad to see she enjoys the music of one of the best songwriters/experimental musicians of our time. Aren't we due for a new Waits album soon or something? Orphans is going to be a tough act for Tom to follow up on, considering it was perfect. But we'll see.

US Tour for Waits this summer according to Rolling Stone.
