How much can she play the gender card before people notice the deck has 12 queens, and no kings or jacks?

Now imagine if Obama said once "Boy, this is so hard for a black person to do."

Judging from the way his campaign is moving, I'd say it is.

When has he ever said this was harder because he was black? He has said things like "this is unlikely," but he's never complained about it being harder because he is black.

FTFA: And I don't expect any sympathy, I don't expect any kind of, you know, allowances or special privileges, because I knew what I was getting myself into. Every so often I just wish that it were a little more of an even playing field," she said, "but, you know, I play on whatever field is out there."

I agree. Being married to a popular former president really makes the race uneven.

I thinks its harder because she has run the second worst campaign behind Rudy Giuliani.

I'm allowed to own a gun. I don't. There isn't a candidate running with substance, IMHO - even though they're allowed to possess it, and most can't lay claim to even an iota of character. Obama presents well, and he handles himself with far more dignity than Hillary, and he's skilled in rhetoric. He'll get the nomination. If he actually gets elected, we'll see if he shapes the job or if the job shapes him. My own opinion is that he doesn't have the mettle to shape the job, but that's all it is - an opinion.

Speaking of spin... The other night I was watching CSPAN. Raul Castro was making a speech to the Cuban lawmakers. Right after was a rerun of a Clinton/Obama debate. So I decided to watch it. Sad as this sounds, Cuba's new dictator sounds like a Republican by comparison.

And you're entitled to that opinion. I happen to think he'll be able to do the job well, but if he gets elected and proves me wrong, I'll vote to kick his ass out in four years.

It's sad how the MSM is giving him a pass on pretty much everything.

He really is the Magic NegroTM from the movies .. well spoken, non-threatening, uplifting & white people are somehow better-off just being in his presence.

Considering he is an Illinois politician, I have no doubt whatsoever that there is a corpse or two down in the dregs of Lake Michigan that he's responsible for.

Do I need to interject my shiat gold bricks speech again? Seriously his speeches are full of inspiring words and he's a great orator but if you break down the shiat he's just saying a bunch of buzz words strung together. I really want to see some concrete plans. Anyone remember Nixon and his I DO have a plan to get out of Vietnam but I'm not telling you what it is until i get elected? I get that sort of vibe off Obama's speeches.

This has been repeated so many times that it pains me to do the same, but...

That's the nature of a stump speech. To rile up your base with slick oratory. You're not going to get policy positions chewed up and fed to you in a campaign speech. By the same standard, Hillary and McCain haven't demonstrated any substance in their speeches either.

I know this. I've been watching them.

Gwendolyn: Anyone remember Nixon and his I DO have a plan to get out of Vietnam but I'm not telling you what it is until i get elected? I get that sort of vibe off Obama's speeches.

Yet if you ever watched him talk about his positions in the debates, town hall meetings, and interviews, you'd find much more planning and substance than even Hillary has demonstrated.

I mean for crying out loud. Interest rate freeze? If anyone else but Hillary proposed this, they'd be laughed out of the race.

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2008-02-29 03:18:15 PM
It's obvious to me that Clinton's whole strategy was positioning herself as the outsider running against the old boy's club. She was probably expecting the race at this point to either be over, or for it to be her against someone like Al Gore or John Edwards. It might actually be a strategy less geared against her Democratic rivals as the eventual Republican nominee, since that was guaranteed to be a white male.

It just doesn't work against Obama, however, and she hasn't come up with a plan B to pull out instead. Or the other plans she's tried, such as harping on Obama's "experience", seem to reinforce the image of her as a shrill, mean harpy.

In any event, and to get back to the topic at hand, yes it is more difficult for Hillary because she's a woman than for Barry because he's a man.

Men can be stern without negative perception. Women are often perceived as biatchy when in positions of power.

Men' in positions of power can shed a tear without the perception of weakness. Women cannot.

Women cannot complain lest they appear to be whining.

Women are either too attractive, or too ugly. People don't really care what men look like.

One of the sweetest ironies I have ever seen on Fark, or in my life, is watching the 23%ers fall all over themselves to make excuses for Hillary Clinton because they are pissing their pants in fear of a Democratic president.

God, you people are pathetic. You've spent the better part of the last two decades spitting at the thought of the Clintons, especially Hillary. Calling her a communist, a murderer, a dyke, a power hungry Lady McBeth.

And now that her nomination is in jeopardy you are licking her ass clean.

Enjoy the taste of eating shiat. Couldn't happen to more deserving folk.

Ok, that's probably true. So lets say its 20% harder to be a woman than a man to be president.

How much harder is it to be black?

How much easier is it to have the an ex-President and the most popular Democrat around be your husband?
