FTFA: "The question is not about picking up the phone," Obama said. "The question is: what kind of judgment will you make when you answer? We've had a 'red phone moment'. It was the decision to invade Iraq. And Senator Clinton gave the wrong answer. George Bush gave the wrong answer. John McCain gave the wrong answer."

This is why Obama is full of WIN. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.

Great analogy. He is the Ali of politics. Great speaker, fun, but unoffending and great on the defense.

Thank you, thank you. :-)

I almost hate to say it for fear of jinxing the man, but the man's rhetorical footwork is a thing of beauty.

Nah, I was hoping bigger. Nothing would crack me up more than if the 3am phone ad turned into the 3am banana phone meme and became her Dean scream

At least Hillary Clinton will know if the call is about President Mede... Medev... Meda... whatever his name is and will know that he is the President of Russia being directed by his puppet-master Putin to launch a nuclear war against America.

Cool, if you click on the link to the clip in the story, you get to sit through an advertisement before watching Stephanopolous (for some reason wearing lip gloss) talk about an other advertisement.

The disagreement I have is the Mondale comparison. The pundits are indeed correct in that Mondale got the nomination against Reagan. What they fail to mention is that this commercial's predecessor had a whole lot less to do with that than Donna Rice did.

And should Hillary REALLY be talking about her knowledge of world leaders with the gaffe on Putin's successor?

TX: Obama 48, Clinton 42
OH: CLinton 44, Obama 42

The only phone call this woman is going to get is going to be from Howard Dean. Texas is moving fast to Obama and that big win in Ohio ain't gonna happen.

"It's 3:00am and your children are asleep," a voice over says in the ad. "There's a phone in the White House, and it's ringing. Something is happening in the world. Your vote will decide who answers that call."

"Whether someone knows the world's leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead. It's 3am and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?" the ad concludes.

Is this a joke?

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2008-02-29 01:19:48 PM
It's going to be so nice to have a president with a level head, who can think on his feet, and who can make course corrections when the need arises.

The Farrakahn thing during the debate could have been bad. But he made a judgement, accepted the risk, and totally took all the energy out of her critique.

Contrast that against McCain's last debate when Romney was still in. "Timeline! TIMELINE!! TIMELINE!!!" Obama's going to make short work of him.

White House Phone: Ring Ring Ring

President Hillary: Hello?

President Medvedev: Da, it is I, Madam President.

President Hillary: Who? President Mede... Medev... Meda... whatever your name is...

President Medvedev: AHHH! Motherland!!!!

[Nukes hit Washington DC...]

karasoth 2008-02-29 01:21:52 PM
Well first of all the President doesn't answer the phone involved in a Crisis. their are various staffers who answer the phone and they wake up the President (depending on the type of President he is) when they have a plan or when they have enough information to brief the President

then The President either gets specialists (Foriegn Policy, Intel, or Military) and asks them for solutions. Some of these solutions may have been on a shelf some where for 50 years waiting for this contingency. Then a President (Obama or Hillary either one for that matter) asks some questions to help answer "which choice do I make" and then the President makes a choice and goes back to bed... IF the thing happening is important enough to wake the President up for

No they don't. WE know, because we were paying attention. Everyone else doesn't. It wasn't covered at all coming out of the debate, the only thing that got any play was McCain jumping on one of Obama's answers about Iraq. Not that I want Obama to adopt the Hillary stance of whining about the media, but what would've happened if Obama went "Meda...ev...whatever," dude? What would HILLARY have done? Gotta hit back and you've gotta hit back hard, and "while she's trying to look prepared and says she 'knows the world leaders' in her latest fear-based ad, just last week she had no idea what the next leader of Russia's name is!" is it.

"Who is going to answer the phone?"

Well, biatch, there's no way in hell it's going to be you.

Now go back to your regular gig of selling the American People down the river along with your buddies Joe "Nebbish" Liebermann, Nancy "I'll suck Rove for a kickback" Pelosi, and Harry "Nutless Wonder" Reid.

DLC, RNC, what's the difference?

by the way, may I ask what the point is in constantly pointing out the Medvedev slip up? Not a Hillary fan at all, but I've noticed that some of you aren't even bothering to look up and type the guy's name as you make fun of Hillary. Sorry, it's not quite on par with pronouncing nuclear as New-kew-ler.

And Hillary shoots herself in the foot on much bigger issues. The Medvedev thing just seems like nitpicking, especially when Obama didn't exactly rush out and say his name...

Lawnchair 2008-02-29 01:30:06 PM
No, I am not unwaveringly 100% comfortable with Obama answering that phone. Nor am I with McCain (I don't think he's one whit smarter or more unmalleable than Bush). But if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that I don't want Hillary Clinton involved. Of the three, I trust Obama's instincts the most.

"Now one of Clinton's laws of politics is this: If one candidate's trying to scare you and the other one's trying to get you to think, if one candidate's appealing to your fears and the other one's appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope."

It was an interesting moment. Russert didn't ask either Clinton or Obama specifically; he just posed the question. She volunteered to make a fool of herself-spectacularly.

When your main campaign message (well, this week, at least) is that you're "ready to lead" because you "know the world leaders," it kinda matters that you don't know what their names are.

Ditto. The only way it would be legit to bring it up as a jab at Hilary is if Obama rattled off the guy's full name and listed bio info off the cuff after her slip up. Neither fared well with that question so it's not fair game.
