It worked for Johnson. It worked for Mondale. I hope it will not work this time.

The first time I saw the commercial this morning, I was sad that Colin Powell did not run for President. That is who I would really want to take that phone call.

If he didn't have the balls to tell off the President, he doesn't have the balls to be the President.

So seriously... are people using the "Barry" thing to tie him to "Barry White" in turn trying to say that Barack isn't really black... just a white man with dark skin?

Anyone else notice that we haven't heard anything about Britney Spears' crazy since Hillary went into her own crazy downward death spiral?

The Crazy: it inhabits a new host.

Back to the actual topic: Did anyone else seeing this ad think it was a commercial from Reagan-era America down to the choice of VO? I watched it and immediately thought "Robots are going to steal your medications."

DaSwankOne: It worked for Mondale.

Wait, what?

Shrugging Atlas 2008-02-29 11:48:22 AM
The Obama campaign's response to this ad was perfect:

"Senator Clinton has already had her red phone moment. It was a decision whether to allow George Bush to invade Iraq, and she answered affirmatively. She did not read the national intelligence estimate, so she didn't do her homework either. She still, curiously, tries to suggest that that was not a vote for war, but it most assuredly was.

So this is about what you say when you answer that phone. What kind of judgment you demonstrate. Barack Obama has shown terrific judgment. He showed obviously good judgment on Iraq, showing the right judgment on what kind of diplomacy we should have. I think increasingly voters see him as someone that they believe as Commander in Chief will keep them safe in terms of the judgment he will display."

See that right there? Kind of makes you wonder whether these men have the temperament to be president. Would you tell Prime Minister Major to shut up? Would you call Boris Yeltsin a "Crackerhead"? Who wouldn't you tell to shut up? Because you see, this election is about who can take the heat, who you want there when that secured phone in the White House rings at 3 AM. Do you want someone who will answer the phone politely: "Hello, this is the President. Speak slowly and clearly and tell me what the problem is." Or do you want someone who's cranky, who says, "This better be important," or "Do you realize what time it is?" or simply says, "Shut up!" hangs up the phone and sleeps like a baby while the world burns!

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2008-02-29 11:54:36 AM

It's almost as if nobody has told Mark Penn that Hillary doesn't exactly have the most popular voting record on national security, and that making an ad that allows the Obama campaign to jump all over it is sort of dumb.

Expect the following from Team Clinton later today: All of you just don't understand Senator Clinton's stance on national security. We can't help it if you are all too stupid to understand this commercial!

Tuesday night, Clinton's going to walk onto the stage, let out a Dean-like BLLLLLLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH, then simply collapse in on herself like the house at the end of Poltergeist and disappear.
