Awesome article... a fart contains more information.

Why does it matter if he died of TB or not?

I hope some of that TB survived and Chavez gets it.

I support digging up dead leaders and politicians. All of them.

Why? What'd he do to you?

There was way too much info in that article for me to read the whole thing.

Unright: Why? What'd he do to you?

Restricted the free speech of Venezuelan citizens. All his other idiotic policy moves aside (A Marxist in the 21st century? Fark that, we have all the evidence we need to condemn collectivist policies), that's enough for me to want him dead.

Link (new window)

"In other words, the ratio of opposition-oriented to government-oriented television changed from about 50:25 (or 2:1) in favor of the opposition to 15:25 (or 1:1.7) in favor of the government in terms of audience share. In most countries in the world, where the media is not democratically controlled, any opposition would be overjoyed by having such a ratio. In Venezuela, of course, where the opposition is used to having ruled the country for four decades, such a disadvantage is an intolerable encroachment on their "freedom of speech.""

You still want Chavez dead?

Unright:
You still want Chavez dead?

FTA: Ideally, all broadcast frequencies should be under collective democratic and not private control.

Thanks for making my argument for me. Under the banner of "liberating the oppressed majority" by buying the support of the poor via unsustainable oil-funded handouts, Chavez has wrested control from private citizens. The anti-corporate stance of the author is misguided hyperbole, because it is far worse to have the government control the media than to have privately held corporations, without their own armies and other coercive powers, control it. Chavez is an asshole, and the American leftists that hold him up as ideal because he's such a counterpoint to Bush are jumping from the soup to the fire.

Cagey B [TotalFark] 2008-02-29 01:23:32 PM
Hating Chavez is like hating Ahmadinejad. They're both asshats, but they also both have very little effect on the day-to-day lives of Americans.

Ahmadinejad isn't even the actual ruler of Iran. Chavez likes to rant about Bush and American imperialism, but there's too much money to be made in selling oil to us for him to do anything to us.

I dunno. Seems like there's more productive outlets for that sort of thing. Like fapping.

You know what he'll discover?

Simon Bolivar was killed by George Bush's CIA in a covert time travel operation.

Sounds like a joke, but given Chavez's obsession with our drooling C-Student In Chief, it may well pan out that this is the case.

I was listening to his speech this morning on teh intratubes and was delighted to hear him ranting about "conspiracies" and such. It's hard to listen to him and not imagine him in the role of Barbe-Bleue by Offenbach.

Why does it matter if he died of TB or not?

Chavez is trying to "prove" that Simon Bolivar was poisoned by Columbian agents. It's an attempt to drum up anti-Columbian feelings. Chavez doesn't like the current Columbian gov't so he's is stiring the pot trying to justify taking actions against Columbia.

Uzhus 2008-02-29 02:19:42 PM
So, Bolivar died in 1830, after he resigned, ^ and yet Chavez wants to find proof that the man was murdered? After almost 8 decades, wouldn't they be more likely to find Skeletor Bolivar?

I'm saying whether or not I support Chavez one way or the other, but why is it so many Americans can't seen to stand the idea that another country might operate on a different ideological basis, and, god forbid, actually be relatively successful at it?

Not everybody wants to live under a laissez-faire capitalist style or economy, nor should they be made to.

All those neo-liberal economic policies that were put in place in Africa and Latin America at the coercion of the WTO and IMF have just done wonders, haven't they?

2008 - 1830 = 178

Bolivar, Lich King of South America, sounds like a step in the right direction though.
