Strike that, reverse it!

To any Fark medical gurus, does his speech signal the onset of Alzheimer's or possibly even a stroke? He uses opposite words on two occasions such as dispirited and liberal... and he also switches letters in the word promise.

I don't recall him speaking in this manner before, but to be fair I've never really listened to any of his speeches.

Obama is going to clean his clock during the debates, and it won't be pretty.

Exactly what I was just thinking.

Liberal Republican? Isn't that an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp and Religious Tolerance?

"Compassionate Conservative"?

Vai1018

Liberal Republican? Isn't that an oxymoron...

No more so than "conservative Republican", at this point.

I think we should all realise that "Republican" is its own beast by now. They're not really conservative, and they're not really liberal. They just dance to their own bizarre drum.

TofuTheAlmighty 2008-02-29 12:18:11 PM
McCain is just like every Republican - reactionary. Though if Jonah Goldberg's premise that liberal = fascist is true, McCain would be a liberal Republican (as would every GOPer in Congress).

McCain's a supreme douchebag who's merely better than most at manipulating the press.

Vai1018: Liberal Republican? Isn't that an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp and Religious Tolerance?

I'd say Conservative Republican (you know, small government, more freedom, fiscal responsibility) is a bigger oxymoron. Now it seems they can do whatever they want as long as they hate on gays and abortion come election year.

If Hilderbeast wins the Dem nomination and Barack runs as an independent, this could cause the Reps to split off their more conservative faction and run their own candidate if McCain wins.

Or maybe the reverse will happen. Who knows?

\ Or maybe Nader will profit from this confusion
\\ Or maybe not if his vote is split with the green party

Lol, as if this matters any - remember the Presidential debates of 2004? Kerry talked circles around Bush in the first two debates. And we all see how that turned out...

I disagree. George W. Bush pandered on about the war and hit on the points his base likes. McCain is clearly not doing that. No base Republican wants to hear their candidate call himself a 'liberal Republican'.

You know what I mean. Gore and Kerry were both supposed to clean Bush's clock. He ended up doing pretty well and I think McCain can too. Obama will certainly do well also

Kerry talked circles around himself and turned off the electorate. The guy was as inspired as tuna salad.

I'm not a McCain supporter, and I hope Obama cleans his clock, but this is just stupid.
That said, if you listen to the clip, he says "I'm a proud conservative liberal Republica- I'm a proud conservative Republican."
He doesn't say what TFA claims, that he is a "proud liberal Republican". Without an ellipsis, that quote is a lie.

A McCain / Obama debate should be damn interesting to watch. We might actually see people staying on the issues for once...and hopefully no "You forgot Poland" moments.

Exactly. I am not a medical expert or anything but isn't making common goof ups like this usually an indication that Alzheimer's is on its way?

As the oldest person running for president ever I hope McCain will make public his health records so people can make an informed decision.

I wonder if the soft bigotry of low expectations will benefit McCain because he is so old or if it is just reserved for the clearly incompetent.

I'm still hoping for a 3rd party evangelical 'true conservative' party to pop up.

I don't know, I lost my talking points memo. I'm sure it's got something to do with Hitlery and Sandy Burgler.

He doesn't need health records; he brings his mommy along with him on the campaign trail.

atomsmoosher: Kerry talked circles around himself and turned off the electorate. The guy was as inspired as tuna salad.

This. He had such an opportunity with the $87B "flip-flop", and squandered it.
"I voted for an $87 billion dollar appropriation to support and fund our troops, that was fiscally conservative and would have supported America at the same time. President Bush vetoed that bill, one that received unanimous support, and instead wanted the $87 billion to come from his magical unicorn and rainbows fund. Why does Bush hate this economy and want to drive the dollar into collapse?"

But no, Kerry's an idiot.
