Farrakhan: "Judaism is a gutter religion."
John Hagee: "The Catholic Church is the Great Whore."

Nope. I see no parallels to be drawn here. I'd say John picked up the Catholic hate vote tho -- which is worth 100x what the Judaism hate by Nation of Islam vote is worth -- so don't expect any apologies from Mr. McCain.

/not to suggest it's all calculation.
//there are principals involved.

Why exactly are people beating up on subby? This is a negative article about McCain that says something positive about Obama (sort of). This is unusual behavior for NewsMax, to publish something unflattering about a Rep that makes a Dem look good.

ablank 2008-02-29 09:44:54 AM
For the record, Catholic League President Bill Donohue is a douche who should not be taken seriously. That said, when he went apeshiat about Edwards hiring someone who once said something bad about Catholics on the internets, he got lots of press, including Newsmax. Now that he's calling out McCain, the principle sound one hears from CNN, etc is crickets. At least Newsmax is consistently treating Donohue as a credible source, regardless of who he criticizes.

Also for the record, John Hagee is a crazy douche and no one should take anything he says seriously either.

mccain's latest endorsement is an asshat. he should denounce him just like obama did farakan. he probably will eventually.

ftfa: "Indeed, for the past few decades he has waged an unrelenting war against the Catholic Church. For example, he likes calling it 'The Great Whore,' an 'apostate church,' the 'anti-Christ,' and a 'false cult system...

"In Hagee's latest book, 'Jerusalem Countdown,' he calls Hitler a Catholic who murdered Jews while the Catholic Church did nothing...

Man, these right wing radicals really really really dislike John McCain. I wonder how much of this hate is based on merit and how much is the pundits hedging their bets just so they can biatch about whoever is elected? After 6 years of total Republican rule and 8 years of their "next Reagan" G.W., they have found that defending failed policy is getting harder harder. It also seems blaming things on the other party when they do not control any branch of government lacks the bite to stir emotions.

The right wing pundits are becomming more and more marginalized. Despite their best effort the Republican voters are going to nominate John McCain. To the right wing radical pundits this is a slap in the face and they take it as a personal insult. This is their power play to remain relevant.

Correct. Also, there's no evidence that obama's reverend is even remotely anti-semitic. Because he praised the NOI's community work does not mean he agrees with all of what they say, and no one has ever found anything in his record to suggest he is a bigot. The pro-africa stuff is no different than what you'll regularly hear in a roman-catholic or greek-orthodox church.

You can be whatever the hell you want and it won't make you as bad as someone who calls for the death of someone else. I'd rather be friends with a racist than a mass murderer, though as a Republican you're probably used to hanging around people who aim to be both at once...

Hang On Voltaire: I am a Catholic too and I said McCain shouldn't have accepted the endorsement and I hope he denounces Hagee

Just to expand upon this further, this Hagee situation sets me off because frankly there aren't many outspoken anti-Catholic types these days. A lot of Catholics have terribly thin skin and think that anybody who criticizes the Church is a bigot. In this case, Hagee actually IS a bigot. Hagee is one of the most outspoken anti-Catholics (and arguably anti-Semitic types as well, since he blamed the Jews for the Holocaust) out there. Given McCain's attempts to reach out to Catholics, this is a tremendous slap in the face, and playing the "they're not equivalent" game doesn't get aruond that.
