See..this shows their inexperience. Neither of the Obama's should have responded to this middle name crap. C'mon Michele, don't pull a "Bill" now.

Hillary first, girl..c'mon.

"We're even hearing [that] now. ... 'When all else fails, be afraid of his name, and what that could stand for, because it's different.'"

Actually, I don't find much wrong with that- I think the more they point out how absolutly asinine the republican fear-mongering is, the better for them.

It's not just fear-mongering, either, but a look at the utter racism and cultural ignorance that defines so many of the people who choose to affiliate with that "side."

And I'm saying it's so ludicrous, they shouldn't respond at all. They need to "stay on target", the Hillabeast isn't dead yet. And that's when Hillary is most deadly, when you think she isn't anymore.

Obama needs to finish her off before looking grandiose. Again, inexperience.

pfffft... it's politics, what do people expect?

If he doesn't like his middle name, he should have changed it. Honestly, using his middle name is all part of the game. At the very least, it is one of the more factual things to be said during this time.

/wonders if Obama will use his middle name when being sworn in?

Funny, I don't remember Obama ever saying he didn't like his middle name. And no, it's not 'politics' it is a pathetic xenophobic racist bigoted attempt to link Obama to some scary image. Actually, you may be right, since that is what passes for republican 'politics' these days.

He went by "Barry" all of his childhood, the "Barack Hussein Obama" is all part of his strategy. He wants people to be labeled bigots, racists, and fear mongers when they use his middle name. He wants to look like a victim, and of course the media will do everything they can to assist this strategy.

I have a weird first name, I tried to not use it when I was in elementary and middle school, I went by my middle name. When I got to high school I switched to my first name. I wasn't trying to play victim, I just stopped caring what people thought. Also it was cool to be called on and know I was being addressed and not wonder if it was one of the 7 other people in class that had the same name.

The nice thing about anesthetic is it usually wears off pretty quick. I think he's playing fast and loose, a little God complex going on. His mouth is writing checks his ass can't cover and it's gonna bite him. The Republicans will make sure of that. They both need to finish Hillary first..stay on target. Any national engagement right now is folly.

This isn't their first campaign. This isn't the first time opponents latched onto the whole Barack HUSSEIN Obama thing.

She's just pointing out their pettiness. And it is petty. But that's the GOP for you.

So petty away, GOP'ers. You'll be as effective as Alan Keyes.

I like that this "Hussein" talking point has been so utterly crushed and ridiculed that GOP party bosses had to come out and denounce it.

The impotent "but we're just saying his middle name! It's those got-damned libs that have made it an issue!" defense is some of the funniest damage control I've seen in a while.

The more time he spends clashing with Republicans, especially McCain and Bush, the less attention Hillary gets and the more Obama looks like the party's standard bearer and presumptive nominee. It is staying on target because stuff like this continues to push Hillary out of the equation and out of the news cycles.

This.

I particularly liked the way both Obama and Hillary scared the shiat out of our neighbors the other night too.

DarnoKonrad 2008-02-29 09:01:50 AM
Actually this isn't a bad strategy at all. No one, who is thinking about voting for the guy, or considering supporting him, cares about his middle name. The only people who will make an issue of it, how ever it's obfuscated, were never going to vote for him anyway.

This is is way of controlling the media. You accomplish two things: 1) You get to denounce the opposition. 2) You garner media attention, assuring the issue *will* come up in a future debate.

I'm sure he has a perfect debate position on this *issue*. Probably a good laugh line, an ability he's demonstrated many times already.

We haven't even gotten to the general election yet, and John McCain is already talking about what a fine name Barack Obama is.

This is DOA.

Blame the "Republican Fear Mongering Machine" all you want, but 99% of all attacks on Obama have come from the "Liberal Clinton Fear Mongering Machine."

What you are forgetting is that Rove learned everything he knows about running a campaign from watching the Clintons. You hypocrites had no problem when the machine wasn't being run against one of your guys.

Well it's also some independents who look around and see a candidate who is full of arrogance and pomp leading a group of people who worship him as a god and just feel like a little deflation here and there is a healthy thing.

A lot of the followers have never heard the pitfalls of wrestling with a pig and so they are fun to wind up.

But I guess that's all petty also...but it is also fun.

I'm conflicted about Obama. I'm encouraged by his willingness to try some things differently, such as universal health care and less aggressive/confrontational foreign policy.

However his domestic platform will only expand the power of government, and I can't shake the feeling in my bones that that's the wrong way to maintain individual liberty.

I'd give him a chance for 4 years... it's not like anything productive has come out of the last 8.
