In the US their is PLENTY of room to move left.

Your political system doesn't have a left wing as far as I can see.

You have right, and far right.

Two Dogs Farking [TotalFark] 2008-02-29 07:09:35 AM
I thought we couldn't see him because he's so dark? Or not dark enough?

Wow..that's a twist. Sometimes it looks like we have the Red Menace from NE aggression. The dark commie hoards from places like NY and MA. From where I live, the dark clouds to the east is Mordor.

Heh. From my (admittedly European) perspective, there is no left wing in the US, and certainly no socialists.

The same thing is happening in the UK where Labour (who were originally left wing) are now further to the right than the Conservatives in some issues.

I think politics is in an unhealthy state, that much is for sure.

Yeah, I'm not hearing anything approaching communism in this campaign. I loathe Clinton, but not because she's a damn communist.

You left-o-phobes don't know quite how good you've got it.

None of that sounds particularly leftist to me.

But McCain's adviser says it is, so I'll take his completely objective word for it, after all Obama has teh most liberalz voting record in da Senate, according to totally unbiased right-wing rags...

McCain will fail miserably if he plans to attack Obama with the same old, tired "Liberal!! ZOMG taxer and spender!!" BS rhetoric.

It's a new game, John. Learn that now or follow Hillary down the drain.

I love this argument. Barry is one of the most left-leaning politicians we have, yet his supporters rationalize it by showing how other countries are far more liberal.

Guess what, other countries do not make US policy.

For the American political system, Barry is about as left as it gets, and it's going to kill him in the general election.

By calling him by his college nickname, instead of "Senator Obama", your lack of respect for him is supposed to show that you do not view him as a valid candidate.

Or something like that.

This isn't to say the US doesn't have it's fair share of hard communists, just none of them are in power.

The American far right would disagree with you, though in their defense, their definition of "socialist" is "somebody who wants to force me to like Negroes".

Flab: Actually, PurplePimpSaber, socialism would be in the orange quadrant, not the green one.

Socialism (in the European sense) = social libertarianism + low economic permissiveness

The combination of low economic permissiveness and social authoritarianism (the orange quadrant) would be Russian communism.

Last week Mr Obama came out against "open trucking" with Mexico in which freight lorries would drive across the border instead of unloading on to American trucks.

Any chap driving a lorry in the colonies should be thrown in gaol.

The chart uses terminology that angers people who think their 'libertarian' candidate can't possibly be on the authoritarian side of the chart. Here, I fixed it.

Mr Obama's proposal to levy lower corporate tax on companies that reverse the offshoring of jobs has caused disquiet. "Patriot employers" was unveiled when Mr Obama had already become the favourite to secure the nomination. Some say it is unworkable.

Um, not really. Maybe unworkable, who knows, but it's not something new.

It's a childish way of poking fun at Obama. Instead of pulling out the big guns and calling him Osama or Barrack Hussien Obama, Barry is a way of making Obama seem small. Same as if you called George Bush Georgey, or Bill Clinton Willy.

It's just a nuanced way for people to feel like they're getting a dig in for free on someone while also being able to deny they are calling someone names like an 8 year old.

You have to appreciate how a tax incentive to reward companies for keeping jobs in the US gets spun as some sort of horribly onerous penalty for the ones that don't.

Wait, not "appreciate"... what's a word that means "shake your head at in disgust?"

Anyone that thinks this is somehow a liberal idea has not taken a economics class in 30 years. Obviously none of the Conservatives that were slobbering all over Freakonomics never bothered to read it. Behavorial Economics is how we should approach policy. William F. Buckley would agree. We should look at any policy by subtracting the cost from the gains. If we get a negative number we should reconsider this policy. Obama is right on NAFTA, he is right on this patriotic company thing if we can show that we would gain from them. It is like healthcare. It is currently 25% of our GDP. If we can make healthcare more affordable, we will lessen our Medicare burden. If it is more affordable and you have similar coverage, why would anyone be apposed to this?

I hear Obama has three photos in his wallet: one of his family, one of Osama bin Laden signed "infiltrate and destroy!", and one of Eugene V. Debs

So it must be true. Especially since he fought alongside the Taliban and was the 21st hijacker.
