A better question is, why is a Senator promising to bring jobs to up state New York? The local economic climate should be handled by state and local government, not Federal. The only way for a Senator to have any effect on jobs would be by sneaking pork for her district into bills.

Apparently she was promising things and expecting Al Gore to deliver.

When is she going to learn... women are held to a different standard. When a male candidate makes a remark critical of his opponent he is playing hardball. When a women makes a remark critical of her opponent she is being a biatch.

I'm not voting for her (I did in 2006, though), but she honestly did try. She's succeeded in winning a substantial amount of money for business incubators and the like. The trouble is, governments upstate are absolutely hostile to business. Take, as an example, the formerly bustling small city of Jamestown, New York. Property tax rates in Jamestown are, for most people under 65, about twice or three times the rate levied in New York City. Seniors get a huge discount. Sales taxes and income taxes are relatively high, zoning ordinances are strict and serve no useful environmental purpose, and the schools are neglected.

This pattern has played out all throughout upstate New York. Local governments are largely Republican and largely hated. But people know them, and challengers get hit with any number of punitive measures.

Do you understand now why New York City has been grumbling about splitting off from the rest of the state for decades? We've been subsidizing these idiots for ages, and they won't even do us the courtesy of investing our tax money wisely. They just sit there and leech and complain about the brown people.

I'm willing to believe that. Fact is, though, her promise fell flat and she isn't owning it solely because she's made a larger, similar promise now.

she wants a timeout from mortgage interest rate hikes and a timeout from nafta? Uh, Hillary it is not kindergarten, it is a very large economy and you can't stop parts of it without having an enormous change on all of it. she has just demonstrated why she is totally incompetent and incapable of running anything except this country into the ground. stop her now Texas and Ohio

translation: it's not her fault, everyone is just sexist.

bullshiat. not only is that bullshiat, but it's insulting. not to mention bad for her campaign, it blinds you to what's going on.

her attacks are weak, poorly laid out, and off issue. if the people who support her weren't so busy coming up with the kind of crap you're spouting they might be able to recognize this fact and adjust.

what's your excuse for the fact that her husband's like-minded attacks have been treated the same way?

Well, technically it's the "fault" of the people who didn't vote for her.

So, I guess, it's my fault.

You're welcome.

It's really my fault.

That's what she told me.

They just released a poll for Ohio. Obama is behind 44/42 (3% margin of error). God, I so very hope he takes both states on Tuesday.

GOBAMA!

unexplained bacon 2008-02-29 09:34:01 AM
it wasn't her (obviously poll-shifted) position on iraq

it wasn't her weak off issue attacks

it wasn't her poorly managed campaign

it wasn't her mandated healthcare plan

it wasn't because she followed the advice of yesterday's hack political philosophers who's tricks are tired and played out.

it wasn't her failure to recognize when her attacks were working for her opponent and against her.

it wasn't anything to do with the quality campaign her opponent ran.

it wasn't because people looked at both candidates and made an informed decision

it wasn't because people want something different than a clinton following a bush.

nope it's because she doesn't have a penis and democratic voters are sexist pigs, and the media unfairly picks on her, and because she was supposed to have won by now.

/these excuses should be tossed in the trash on top of her 'go negative' strategy.
//if she had stuck to the issues, she would have done better.

The interest rate freeze thing is her absolute worst proposal. 5 years??? Did she just pull that number out of her ass? That she even thinks such a scheme would be a good way to "help" people at all shows that she has no grasp of complex economic issues (or she is willing to set aside what she knows in order to pander).

To all you people who say Hillary should stick to the issues: try reading her positions on the issues! She's been claiming Obama doesn't have any real substance becuase the more he has to bring out his policies the less she has to talk about her own. She cannot run on her policies. They're terrible, they aren't well thought out, and she's just going to put them aside when a certain divisive political figure running for president galvanizes the republicans to pick up senate seats.

What does she have in the way of the issues? Forcing people that can't afford to buy healthcare to buy it anyway, interest rate freezes, not talking to our enemies, ready and willing to go nuclear on Iran.. Everything else is a ducked question and an attack on Obama. She was obviously hoping she could make a presidential campaign on claiming McCain has a black baby.

Falcc: To all you people who say Hillary should stick to the issues: try reading her positions on the issues!

This. Clinton can't run on the issues. She runs on spite, villainy and hate. I don't like Obama or McCain, but she's a robot powered by the blood of kittens. Her stance on the issues is what she thinks will get her votes. She's as constant and unchanging as the San Andreas fault and would do as much damage.

Dear Abby,
My husband is a liar and a cheat. He has cheated on me from the beginning, and, when I confront him, he denies everything. What's worse, everyone knows that he cheats on me. It is so humiliating. Also, since he lost his job eight years ago, he hasn't even looked for a new one. All he does all day is smoke cigars, cruise around and BS with his buddies while I have to work to pay the bills. Since our daughter went away to college he doesn't even pretend to like me and hints that I may be a lesbian. What should I do?
Signed, Clueless

Dear Clueless,
Grow up and dump him. Good grief, woman - you don't need him anymore! You're a United States Senator from New York running for President of the United States. Act like one!

RevLovejoy 2008-02-29 09:32:45 PM
