C'mon, the company's name is "Sheetz"?

I reloaded the page searching for the offensive picture because I knew it just couldn't be the word fricking stirring up all the controversy.

If church billboards can throw around the word HELL, this should get a pass.

Brad_Will [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-02-28 02:40:25 PM
Many years ago, there was a billboard for a ski resort along I-81 in Wilkes-Barre that had the word "SNOW" upside-down (I don't recall why it was upside-down, it's been a long time). So I got to see a billboard reading "MONS" in giant letters every day for a few months, which was always good for a chuckle.

I saw the billboards in FTA when we were coming back from PA. As the father of two small children, I think some people really need to unclench once in a while.

Sym_pathetic 2008-02-28 02:42:49 PM
FTA: "We're kind of known for edgy, kind of brash advertising tactics, and we knew this would spark a certain amount of controversy," Jones said. "That said, we're proud of the campaign."

Frickin is edgy?

Well, gosh darn.

Well, there's a big, red cock on the billboard, what would you expect?

I always laugh when I go to PA and see the Sheetz burger signs. It's bad enough getting a burger at a gas station.. but at a place named Sheetz?

zez 2008-02-28 03:25:34 PM
A local car dealers commercial here went like this, "If you bought your car from somewhere else, you don't know Jack Schmidt!"

It ran for years.

aniktwo: C'mon, the company's name is "Sheetz"?

That's the family name of the guy who owns the chain.

They sell hot dogs, or as we call them "Dog Sheetz". I pass a Crispy Frickin' Chicken billboard on my way to work every day.

Heroic Poser beat me to it.

Chuck Wagon: a man called and said he had small children and didn't think they should be exposed to that type of language.

I HIGHLY doubt that this man's small children can read. This man, in Hazleton, PA. Unless his small children are smart enough to read that going past at 45 mph, at their weird small child angle - that's assuming they are not glued to Spongebob in the backseat.

/Yeah! Spongebob!

All of England's convicts ended up in Australia
All of England's religious puritan freaks ended up in the United States

Australia ended up with the better end of the bargain.

Man this reminds me of my roommate's GF in college. She's one of those prissy uptight types from the midwest and she would feign mock shock when I would say the slightest swear word (damn, Hell and the like). Come to think of it, I didn't curse like a sailor at that time like I do now.

After being in the UK for 3 years the vernacular has rubbed of on me, and boy is she gonna be shocked when she sees me next. No doubt it will be a verbal assault on her "delicate sensitivities".

YixilTesiphon 2008-02-28 03:29:15 PM
There's a shiathole town near here which is by a dam. When entering the central business district you are welcomed to Whitney Point - "best by a dam site". Retarded, but I'm sure somebody has been offended.

nytmare 2008-02-28 03:29:29 PM
Fark advertisers, I know they love to push the envelope but most times they deserve to be pushed right back - over a cliff.

K3rmy 2008-02-28 03:29:55 PM
There is a simple way to settle this. Everyone sing aloud!

Shut your fricken face, uncle fricker
you're a bona-fide ass-licking uncle fricker
you're an uncle fricker, yes it's true
nobody frick's uncles quite like you

Nope. Does not have that zazz. Frick is not an offensive word.

You are a nerd. Most people aren't going to care about the latin word for mountain. And most people aren't going to automatically assume it refers to the mons pubis/veneris.

In fact most people that get offended by billboards don't even know what that shiat is.

Aside from that, I could go for some frickin chicken.

/lunch time
